The MacBook Air is 0.76 inches thick, not 0.7. So the MacBook is less than 1/5 of an inch thicker than the Air. Volumes (ignoring edge tapering in both machines) are 108.5 ci for the MacBook and 87 ci for the Air. The 21.5 ci volume difference is less than that of 2 standard CD cases.

Bottom line: The MacBook is nearly as small as the Air, almost as powerful as the MB Pro, cheaper than both the Air and Pro, 1.5lbs heftier than the Air and 1lb lighter than the Pro.

I just bought the previous version of the macbook pro and I think I am glad I did. I like the firewire ports and the non-glossy screen I got. Also not sure I would like the new button-less touch pad. I have not tried it so maybe it would not be hard to pick up, but overall I think I am happy that I have the previous generation. The screen with the black trim does look pretty slick, but I am not so sure about the black keys. I like my aluminum keys too.

You do realize that the new-entry level Macbook at $999 is the old mid-level Macbook that sold at $1299? That’s a $300 drop.

They should have kept the firewire 400 in the macbook. That kills it for me.

My hope is that the old MacBook is just a place holder for a new line of inexpensive MacBooks. The new MacBook seems more like a MacBook Pro, just like the 12″ PB was.
