Apple MacBook event October 14th rumored

While the Apple Let's Rock event yesterday may have brought joy to anybody looking at buying a new iPod, those hoping for a surprise computing announcement to round out the show will have gone home disappointed.  That, according to Daring Fireball's John Gruber, was all part of the Apple plan, however; he quotes sources "familiar with Apple's hardware plans" who say the company is planning an event on October 14th specifically dealing with new MacBooks.

"Such speculation was misguided; Apple has held an iPod/music special event in September or October every year since 2001, and, to my knowledge, has never once used such events to announce new Mac hardware. Those of you holding out for a new lineup of MacBooks will have to wait until October 14, according to sources who, as they say, are familiar with Apple's hardware plans" John Gruber, Daring Fireball

While there are no specific details as to what the company might have planned for October 14th, rumors about impending MacBook and MacBook Pro updates have been circulating for some time now.  Among the possibilities raised so far include a large, multitouch glass trackpad and a one-piece aluminium case.  It's also been suggested that the MacBook Air will get an update to an Intel Penryn-series processor, while the new iPod classic 120GB hard-drive could easily be transplanted to Apple's ultraportable.

Invitations to Apple events tend to only go out no more than two weeks before the show itself, so the possibility of something on October 14th that we've not yet heard about is high.  It also tallies with Apple's suggestion to retailers that they should stock up on certain models as availability could be limited.
