i have tons of apple products from iPod to Air and i don't ever ever take it anywhere outside or ever brag about it, i actually used to be an Apple hater and Windows lover myself until my company made me use mac, after few months i realized what i've been missing (took few month to adjust and deal with my hate and rejection) Outcome - $hit just works! The network i setup 3-5 years ago still fast and never ever goes down, my iMac still runs as fast as when i first purchased it, my iPod has been in my car for years and now with wifi module in my new car plus Ipod touch connected to icloud i have my entire library that is auto sync'd 24/7 in my car always - never need to take it out to sync! When i got my first iPhone (i used razor before it) it felt like quantum leap from dumb phone to something that was out of this world. Recently i tried to use android phone - same processor speed and supposed to be similar smart phone but fragmentation issues and then it's slow and... (long list here) - back to iphone. TV - this rendering is silly, i doubt new iTV will look like this but rather something that no one expects. LOVE my samsung LEDs but sort of excited to see what apple will bring to the table.

Conclusion: apple products might look sexy but it's not the main reason why people buy them, they also seem to be pricier - true but after you calculate price of all free stuff you can put on mac and how much time you save makes it cheapest device ever! Windows OS - $299 to $599+ Apple OS - $29 big difference already, plus all video, music, photo and other software it comes with is free... if you want good software like this on windows you have to pay $50-300 piece and then you still don't know if it will do it (can't believe audio-video sync is still an issue these days on windows!!!), now what's is really cheaper? Macs are not just easier - they are simpler and simplicity = future. one thing i don't miss from MS Windows is going to control panel to set settings, defragmenting my hard drive to make it faster, dealing with wi-fi or other network issues, getting and cleaning viruses - in many cases = reinstalling OS from scratch, setting up home streaming network - forget about it. DVD/Blu-ray is not future, as a matter of fact i don't have ether for over 4 years now and been streaming everything without any need for drives, discs or ugly devices.

Some people like me, have a normal sized bed room, but have more than just a bed, dresser and tv. I also have a piano and shelf and posters. 30"-45" would fit nicely in my room. I don't need a big tv. A large tv would be good for my living room. You are right in saying that big screens are nice. But I personally would not want a huge screen. 50" is enough for a living room sitting on a couch 12' away. (in my opinion). But that's what all of this is, opinions. You have yours, I have mine. It's like we're arguing on wether chocolate or vanilla ice cream is better.

The issue isn't "Smart", but sort of smart. I think its pretty obvious that iOS is all about streaming digital media around. If apple were to make a TV, it would be either a wall-mount flat monitor or a projection device. Either case, it would work like an an AppleTV with a screen with a nice logo on it. It might even come with speakers that have a built in wi-fi connection to the tv guts to add wireless sound. That is all it needs to be. Would you like to buy one? I think you would just control it with a ipod touch, iphone, ipad, or other Apple device.

As for a name. Pretty simple. They already own the name. "APPLEVISION" as in the Applevision 1710 color display from HELL. Ok... I am better now. Talk about a piece of crap.. no... really I'm better now.

First of all scrub I don't buy cheap stuff. You ever spend 7k on a home amplifier for 13k on a pair of speaker? Ya I did not think so. Do you spend 100 bucks on a manual lemon juicer? nope. I am by far cheap. I will buy expensive well built well designed toys all day long. I will buy them at retail, I have no issue supporting gear I want.

But you are completely and utterly clueless if you dont think people don't fall prey to advertising...Listen idiot, that is my business, to make morons like you buy crap you dont need..and you fall prey every time.

If you have a PC that it crashing all the time, you are doing something wrong. Every apple I encounter crashes. My buddy is an apple fanboy and buys all apple crap and I absolutely love it when he wants to show something off and it crashes or hangs up "wow, it has never done this" ya right buddy, your apple only freezes when I am around. /facepalm

Apple has never brought out a product that "hit" me like a ton of bricks. They are tools that do less work then a PC, simple. Iphone is a design nightmare with a broken antenna right out of the gate, glass on the BACK side where it makes zero sense...ya love dropping my phone knowing a part of it WILL break.

But you apple imorons, isheep, iIdiots, iTards whatever iThing you are this week, will never learn. You think I am in a closed world...buddy, open your fucking eyes.

I call bull shit on your statements. People buy Apples products because of quality. I had years of frustrating experience with windows mobile devices. Then iPhone came and everything changed.

Earlier this year I challenged my self to buy an Android tablet when Motorola Xoom came out. With a 300 dollar gift card, I bought a 900 dollar worth Xoom. ( costed me 600 bucks after the discount). I kept it for 14 days ... It was a miserable experience those 14 days!

The device kept crashing all the while. Xoom could do really cool thing like an active desktop. I had the star field active desktop that made me feel being in a space ship. Yet it froze so many times that it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Honeycomb operating system was the worst experience of my life. Garbage - pure unadulterated garbage.

Keep dreaming in your imagined world that people buy Apples product only to be cool. You guys won't change. You have closed your minds to reason and experience with hate. When Apple brings out the next best thing then it hits you like a ton of bricks... Holy shit why didn't I do that.

Like cheapos you will be aping the company you hate the most...

you are 100% clueless...seriously.

You obviously do not understand people in anyway shape or form. Apple sells because of slick marketing. And look at the devices that dont sell well, you know the ones that MS and google trump the living hell out of, they are all devices you cant carry with you.

People buy apple because they think it makes them look cool, or they are too ignorant to use a PC (not that it is any harder, but slick marketing will do that). They buy devices that are obtainable (by price) and that they can show off in coffee shops.

An apple TV wont sell on so many fronts it is stupid. For one it will be at least 3 to 4 for something the iCrowd cant show off.

Apple does not have any panel technology and samsung is the best. Do you really think that

A. Samsung will sell to apple after apples QQing about the galaxy tab and their injunctions against samsung.

B. That samsung will help to create a new competitor in the TV market. No they wont.

Apple has no scaling technology

Apple will not be able to make the TV work with the myriad of surround sound receivers in the market

Apple will not be able to make the TV operate with the plethora of DVD players on the market (or blue ray)

Apple will not be able to create any better picture then you can already get from HD.

Apple needs 40 points of margin on the products they sell to maintain their profitability. TV's are sold in the 15 to 25 point zone.

Apple can not only not make a TV less expensive to begin with, but to offer any better picture quality will require more hardware, again none of which do they own or are proficient in.

Sorry bub, but only fanboys and idiots will buy an apple TV...and even then most of them will not be able to afford it.

An apple TV will work great with in apples ecosystem, but that chunks out all the other reasons to own a TV.

Apple will basically need to rewrite what a TV is, how it operates and the intended function.

BTW ipads are still useless, real productivity is done on windows tablets. ipads are toys for showing off how cool you are(nt)

Being a big fan of Apple products I am willing to concede that Apple has a way of making me want to buy their products. I was always in favor of the "touch" approach on small devices but I'm not sure it ports over to a TV. If you are in the kitchen and have to touch the TV screen it had better be screwed down. Apple usually surprises me. Even the cover for the iPad was a real innovation.

Surely you had iPad in mind when Windoze tablets were there for a long long time didn't you?

Windoze tablets were selling like a million tablets a year with stylus for a long long time before iPad came along. Then what happened? Hmm... Just to remind us all again -iPad shattered all sales records for a tablet device the first year it was launched. It probably sold more in the year it was launched than all the tablet sales the prior ten years.

With iPod, iPhone, iPad, Mac Book Air all setting category defining record sales on the year of launch can you bet iTV will not do the same? Can you bet your money against it? Can you?

Of course there were MP3 players before iPod came along, of course there were smartphones before iPhone came along ( I had Samsung's i760 windows smart phone before my iPhone), of course there were tablets before iPad came along....

And so will have been smart TVs before the speculated iTV comes along...

No wonder people call Apples products magical when they are first announced. Then the same people who laughed at those product introductions by Apple start copying Apple... The most famous example being Samsung which is being hounded by Apple all around the world.

the room, viewing purpose and media resolution play just as much a part. You can place a 100" screen in a 16'x20' room easy (12 feet from screen) if you are using blue ray and even regular 480 resolution dvd's look nice..of course that is if you use a good scaler...but their in lies the issue, apple has crappy scaling to start with.

I would say your room only being able to hold a 47" screen means that

A. you live in your moms basement in a small house to begin with or
B. your wife wears the pants in your home and you wussed out when she said I am not having one of those (larger TV's) in my room.

The rule of TV screen size to room size is a lot more vague then it used to be. We are not in the 90's.

They'll probably make a mid-size screen - Not too big, not too small (like the iPad, their highly successful media watching and web device). My speculation on what Jobs meant by cracking the code might be voice command in conjunction with the ability to control the TV via an iOS device. It wouldn't be necessary to have an iOS to control it, but it would make it more exciting and quicker in some ways. And really fun.

Clicking through channels or setting up a queue via a classic remote control interface made by Apple will work just fine (they've proven this with iTunes), but could you imagine having a super streamlined iPhone app that organizes all sorts of different content and feeds it to us in a way that our touch-computer-in-hand brains are in tune with? could be REALLY cool.

I see this as a possibility because the price tag of an Apple TV is gonna be high, and chances are, it will appeal to a lot of households/apartments with at least one iOS device user. The combo could be awesome, and could really make the big-screen experience a LOT better. Maybe web on a huge screen won't suck anymore!!! I'm psyched...

Why would anyone want a phone to have a huge screen. I think the iPhone got the size just right. No one wants to carry around a giant phone. Your argument is incorrect.
Say that again 2 years from now....

It seems to me, only 2 years ago people were saying "why would anyone want an expensive touch monitor with no keyboard" but, in the meantime, millions of iPads and iPad wannabes have been sold and the market is still growing. Many also said the same about touch phones before the iPhone, many also said the same about mobile phones in general way back when, and many also said the same about personal computers way, way back, and look where all of those technologies are today....

I predict this -- whatever form an Apple TV might take, it will be successful, many other companies will start cranking out similar TV's shortly thereafter, and over the course of 2-3 years, most middle class or higher households will have 1 or more iTV's or a competitor's similar TV in their home (and a lot of people who can't really afford either will max out their credit cards to get one and join the in-crowd anyway)....

The funny part then is all the Android cheapos will then have holy shit moment. Then they will jump in making cheap imitations of iTV and keep shouting to the world this is no big deal we cheapos already thought about that.

My cheapo Android could do that in 1962...

Would you bet it won't happen? It already happened at least once with iPad when the Android cheapos confidently announced to the world no one will buy a toy. Yet when iPad started selling gangbusters, these same cheapos started making iPad clones by the dozens imitating cheaply the iPad. Then they started announcing to the world iPad is no big deal it was all done before.

Cheapos will remain cheapos. They have no class... They will never understand its not what product you make that counts. It's how you make it that matters. They will refuse to understand this.

Ummm, you've been able to create custom ringtones and text ones through iTunes since the 1st iPhone OS (before it was even renamed iOS)... All you had to do was take any audio sample (AAC audio format) less than 45 seconds and rename it's extension .m4r then drag it back into iTunes. Voila, text tone or ringtone... Been that way since I bought the FIRST iPhone over 4 years ago with no jail breaking required...

So, how about this Zneitzel, instead of wasting time and effort complaining about something simply because you are not aware of how to do it, make the time to look up search terms like "iPhone custom ring tone" or "iPhone custom text tone"... Just a thought mate.

This is just plain silly... I will no longer waste my time on cheesy rendering and speculation about apple products. I'll just flatly say that it seems very VERY unlikely Apple will produce a stand alone tv of any sort.

Plug in 4" square box with hdmi cable: now any tv is an apple TV...
