The reason for reserving the name “iSlate” is neither obvious nor devious. It’s simply to reserve a horrid moniker that should never be used. Let’s face it, this new device will be copied ad nauseum, and some crappy off-shore tinkerer will want to call theirs the iSlate, which will by then have already become the unofficial name for Apple’s device. Problem solved.

That goes w/o saying – right? It’s obvious and common sense dictates Apple wouldn’t call something iTurd :).

Of course they do. I would still like the iPhone but would cringe if Apple had decide to call it iTurd. So, yes, it does matter. You need to understand how marketing works.

No one really care what the Apple tablet is called – as long as it blows everything on the market away similar to the way iPhone redefined the mobile phone industry.

I wouldn’t say it’s irrefutable. Apple is so devious that they can be playing a complex cat-and-mouse game. But having said that, I do agree that iSlate is more than just a possibility. I actually hated that name when I first heard it mentioned in that YouTube clip, but have since grown to like it
