Apple iPod touch gets cheaper, faster, more capacious; no camera though

Apple announced a new range of iPod touch models today, though contrary to initial expectations there was no integrated camera as seen on the iPod nano.  Instead, the most movement has been seen in pricing, storage and speed, with the new line-up starting at Apple's "magic price point" of $199 for the 8GB iPod touch.

Meanwhile there's a 32GB and a new 64GB model, priced at $299 and $399 respectively.  While Apple have not made any firm confirmations as to hardware, they have said that the two larger models run up to 50-percent faster than previously, and now support the same OpenGL 2.0 as the iPhone 3GS.

That certainly implies that Apple have squeezed the faster CPU and chipset of the 3GS into the 32GB and 64GB touch, so even though there's no camera there's still something to get excited about if you're into mobile gaming.  The three models are on sale now, though the 64GB model says it won't start shipping for 1-3 business days.
