Why are Fandroids so bitter and butt-hurt about this? It's already been benchmarked. Anandtech already showed A5X UTTERLY DESTROYED the Tegra3.

The tegra3 is a pathetic chip. Why does that bother you Fandroids so much? Because you bought into an INFERIOR platform with an underperforming chip? Just accept reality. The sooner you face reality, the better off you'll be Fandroids.

I have every idea how "this work". Jesus, learn some English.

Try actually googling the benchmarks. They're done by Anandtech. A5X is MUCH faster with 6X the fill rate.

Sorry Fandroid, you lose again.

You should "google" Tegra3 vs A5. Look up Anandtech, the unbiased tech review webite.
Then go in your corner and quietly weep Fandroid.

You know, you should actually take your own advice and look things up before you make a total fool out of yourself.

Its both. Its a system-on-a-chip.

And the A5X is already known to be 45nm.

A5X and Tegra3 have already been benchmarked. A5X has 6X the fill-rate and MANY TIMES the graphics performance.

Just stop talking about things you clearly know NOTHING about Fandroid.

Reality: A Fandroid's worst nightmare.

Apple can't compete with Android? That's why it has nearly 70% of the tablet market share. Either way, check out the tests comparing the Tegra 3 to the A5X they're already on youtube. In graphics performance the A5X blows away the Tegra 3.

Don't forget about Samsung SoCs, like the Exynos and its successor that's launching in/with the Galaxy S III.

New gen Exynos SoCs are suppossed to be running arm coretex A15 cores on the cpu end, vs the cortex A9 the Apple A5 is based on. Cortex A15 cores are IIRC 100% faster than the A9 cores clock for clock, oh and did I mention the new Exynos is going to run at 1.5Ghz?

Processing power wise on the CPU end that should be equivalent to a Tegra 3 running 3Ghz. would be bad of me to make a comparison between a dual-core and quad-core though So i'll leave the A5x out of this comparison.

Also, IIRC the new Exynos should be running the Mali-T604 GPU when it rolls out which should be 2x as fast as the mali-400 MP and has OpenGL ES 1.1 & 2.0, OpenVG 1.1, OpenCL 1.1, DirectX 11 and Renderscript support.

Also my mind=blown @ the fact that we will have DX11 capable phones before the year is out...

Next thing you know, everyone will be asking if your phone can play crysis...

first of all, the A5X isn't the GPU. It's the CPU. If you want to play it that way, then it's probably better at graphics than the tegra 3 CPU. But tegra 3 in addition to it's 4+1 CPU cores also has a 12 core GPU. IPAD3's GPU is a powerVR SGX 543MP4.

in other words, apple's ipad 3 is 65nm process hardware running on vapor and the excitement of hipsters. It just doesn't stack up.

First of all, benchmarks were solely based on the GPU, and Nvidia, as brilliant as they are at making GPU's, have little expierience with GPU's in the ARM market, unlike PowerVR. I'm not making excuss for Nvidia though...

Second of all the A5x as far as I can tell, is exactly the same as the A5 in every possible way, except the 4G LTE capabilities and the quad-core graphics. Apple haven't stated the CPU clock speeds, but them pulling such a move suggests that they'd keep it around the 1GHz clock speed region. Now back to the GPU, and then go with Apple's suggestion that the PowerVR GPU in the A5 is twice as fast as the GeForce ULP in the Tegra. Now Apple say that the Quadcore PowerVR in the A5x is twice as fast as the one in the A5. Now Apple are correct, but to anyone who doesn't know about Graphics processing (i.e. general public), they'd be right. However, Apple doubled the GPU cores, and also doubled the resolution, and I'm sorry to announce that they'd be pretty much no performance change between the iPad 2 and the upcoming iPad. Most of those extra cores are dealing with the increased resolution. I'd reckon you'd get a maximum of 30% increase in GPU performance.

But bravo Apple, good marketing, the A5x would be an absolute beast in the iPad 2...

You have no idea how this work, apple would have tested in a way to make A5X favorable, you must obvious expect A5 or A5X to come upper-hand over tegra 3 if tested with apps customized for dual-core processors.....
On the other hand it's sad to say many apps are not optimized for quad-core cpus, no wonder why samsung is building a faster dual core A15 instead of quad-core.

Nc1 = Competitor Cores

Funny that A5x is only quad core graphics, while tegra 3 is 12 core graphics, has higher clock speeds, AND supports QXGA like the A5X. I'll wait for the independant tests before saying Cook is lying or not, but it's still the directx vs opengl graphics debates. They are so different it is hard to compare (although I would trust that NVIDIA, a primary computer graphics card manufacturing company, would have better graphics than aesthetic ol' Apple)

Yeah exactly

I'm not personally interested in anything 40nm/Cortex A9 now, I don't find Tegra 3 all that useful - more Cortex A9 cores isn't going to do anything in terms of usable performance, not going to speed up web browsing for example.

More interested in 28nm Qualcomm Krait and A15 as you mentioned, they're just way ahead of Tegra 3 where it counts

Apple can say anything and the fanboy sheep take it in as gospel. Bullshit is what i say about that chip being 4x faster. Can't wait to see benchmark tests run on them.
Yes and no on the graphical performance, the Tegra 3 is only a little behind the iPad2 on graphical performance. More specifically only on texture bound test benchmarks do they even come close to a 2x difference but most tests like shaders came only just a little behind. So while the iPad 2 does have better graphical performance it's a bit of a exaggeration to call it a flat 2x difference to the Tegra 3.

Neither this new iPad or the Tegra 3 take advantage of the next gen technology starting to come out this year like Cortex A15 and 28nm fabrication. So it won't be that long before we see other products come out with even better performance offerings during the second half of the year.
