Well what you haft to consider though is if it doesn't how is that any different from Apple locking out their old hardware? The original iPhone has almost the same hardware as the 3G(3G just has 3G chip and GPS) yet the original iPhone is somehow magically unable to run the same software?

that's right ..
but you have one other thing to..
google determs a hardware portfolio about the hardware for his droid .. so if the new 3.0 come's, you can't put it on your old phone?? are can you without the new features??

if you think more in the future, if all the android phone's have the hardware that android needs.. what make's the differents then between one and the other phone.. the you come at personal customize,
for me that is more work than use of a tribal thing as a phone, it has to work right out of the box

i know is bit of a mess i wrought, i'm in the market for a phone but can't figure it out at the moment

I realize that, but it is not Google that is doing it. There are at least some Google phones out there that are not locked down. Also it would be much easier to circumvent I would think, considering they don't need to modify the OS. The just need to replace it with the real one.

Crap like this is the reason that Android is going to win. Personally I refuse to let a company try to control MY DEVICE. That's right when I buy it then it becomes mine to do with what I please.
