And this injunction is coming from the same company that would do
anything and everything to have companies like Amazon and GetJar shut
down for calling their app markets "app stores"..<b> I just got a $829.99 iPåd2 for only $103.37 and my mom got a $1499.99 HDTV for only $251.92, they are both coming with USPS tomorrow. I would be an idiot to ever pay full retail prices at places like Walmart or Bestbuy. I sold a 37" HDTV to my boss for $600 that I only paid $78.24 for.

Frankly, this doesn't really have anything to do with protecting a rectange with rounded corners but has everything to do with keeping their closest competitor at bay as long as they can so they can grab as much market share as possible, with the added benefit of trapping Apple buyers in their ecosystem. I state "added benefit" since anyone that has heavily invested in paid-for content through Apple's appstore will likely buy future Apple products when it comes time for an upgrade so not to lose out on that prior purchased content. This strategy isn't surprising since for as "innovative" as the iPad may have been when it was released, it had a limited shelf life, in terms of appearing innovative. Come on, folks, think about it. The original iPad was nothing more than an itouch/iphone on steriods. Then came the iPad 2 which was a thinner, faster version of its predecessor. Next will be the iPad 3 which I'm sure will be thinner and faster than the iPad 2 and so on and so forth. Sure each generation of iPad may offer more functionality via iOS, but essentially the next iPad will, at its core, be nothing more than a sequel of its forefathers. At some point, competing products with competing platforms will be offering thinner, faster tablets with the same functionality if not better. Apple will reciprocate with another sequel and the back and forth will continue until, at that point, the "magic" Steve Jobs spoke of when he introduced the original iPad is not so magical anymore. The iPad (whatever version Apple will be on at that time) will be nothing more than just another tablet, albeit a good one, among other really good product offerings from Apple's competitiors. Apple's sales will tapper off, but due to its previous runaway success when there were no real competiting products, there will be millions upon millions of consumers already trapped in the Apple ecosystem coming back to them for future hardware upgrades/purchases. So, again, its not really about the rectangle. It's all about keeping competitive, attractive offerings from others off the market as long as possible to addict as many consumers to iOS/itunes ecosystem as possible. For a company that prides itself on forwarding innovation, all Apple is really doing keeping players off the field so it can keep kicking balls into the goal and scoring points without the challenge of having to compete for those points. This is bad for everyone - consumers, competitiors, and, yes, even Apple. How can you be your best at innovating and beating the bar when you are keep the bar set so low? I think I have to correct myself on something I wrote earlier. Come to think of it, the magic is already gone. Thanks for that, Apple.

I'm no stock market expert, but after a little bit of digging it seems like Apple's shareholders aren't as interested in seeking dividends as they are increasing the value of their shares. Apparently, something like 60% of their cash is held overseas and they would have to pay a significant amount (and lose a bit of value) if they were to "repatriate" those funds. I think they (shareholders) may be more interested in holding stocks that are increasing in value, making their respective portfolios more robust, than getting a payout. Lawsuits like these, when they win, could only increase shareholder confidence.

But yeah, you're definitely on point.

Of course, the bigger they come ... we all know the rest.

It's a waste of time and money to the common person, but to Apple shareholders, it's a reason to buy more shares.

Good products speak for themselves, and we all know that the Samsung Galaxy Tabs are just that. In a time when the European economy is circling the drain, it is counter intuitive to block new products that can help, in whatever small way, to boost morale and the economy based on some judges aesthetic opinion.

I'm not worried about Samsung though.

Perhaps Samsung intend to alter the 8.9 and 7.7 inch tabs to walk around this issue, then launch a Quad core update to the 10.1 with cosmetic changes early next year. If this judgement is local (Germany only) which seems to be the case, buyers in Germany will simply order from another EU state.

Apple are cash rich, annoyed with Samsung's success in phones and want to block competitors until they launch iPad3. By mid 2012, tablet choices will be much wider and the Apple monopoly will be gone. I think this case is a waste of time and money - bad PR. I hope Apple loses sales over it.
