The author is not lying and it is a huge error on apple and mobile phone companies. This happend to me and was done By mistake with one of my friends who wanted my sim card to uPdate his iPhone(he doesnt even have phone service but Imessage uses wifi remember...

I gave him my sim, he updated and gave it back. The next day he started Asking us if we talked about whatever and he was reading all Msgs I sent and received from the day before.

I'm very lucky it was a friend so it wasn't used in a baddddd way. I couldn't figure out how he saw all my info even while looking at his phone for a missed option.

I told him to send me a MSG since he only has wifi on it. I got the MSG and it came from the number that the sim card came out of originally which was myself in this case.

One part of the article is incorrect. Deactivating the sim card will not stop the old phone from still receiving the iMessages. Apple's server only links the UDID of the phone, not the sim card. The sim card is only used on the initial activation of the iMessage to verify the phone number. This is the bug!!!

As someone who sold my iPhone 4, I should clarify that I never updated to iOS 5 because at the time there was no jailbreak solution for iOS 5 and I wanted to ensure the buyer had an option to JB/Unlock if they so chose. Given that many people sell their phones under the given circumstances, and iMessages was not available until iOS 5, I think the number of people this may impact is infinitesimally small… While it may be an issue for a very small number of people, it is an issue and I am sure will be rectified soon.

well, not exactly the same... you give your keys to a person, and then take it back. Do you expect that this person can drive off with your car?
(what if you were purchasing an iPhone from another person, and decide to test it using your current SIM - and then decide to not purchase the phone. Did you know that you now have to deactivate your SIM unless you want the seller to have access to all your messages?)

Unless Apple is marketing this as a "feature" that allows you to share your messages with anyone, I think this is correctly being categorized as a bug.
