iOS 4 was incomplete. -_- that’s why AirPrint and AirPlay and a bunch of other iOS 4.0 features were just thrown in the following: iOS 4.1, iOS 4.2.1, iOS 4.3, 4.3.1,4.3.2,4.3.3

I agree. I use Google Voice and it sucks. Thanks for creating a new phone number for me, but if I can avoid opening up your slow-as-hell app that’s not very intuitive or user-friendly, I will. Apple always at least achieves that, whether it’s their idea or not.

Not to mention way more people will eventually use iMessages if it comes standard on every iDevice.

Next is waiting for iMessages to find locality and then iMessage forums could be created for competitors like CraigsList or eBay.

Apple didn’t learn it’s lesson from the last time it almost got pushed into oblivion. Steve Jobs was a pompous azz then and he’s a pompous azz now. He’s done amazing things but Apple is back to thinking it’s unbeatable. History says otherwise.

uuuumh, no it wasn’t. I had touch screens on windows mobile long before the iphone came out. And they had handwriting recognition also. Apple just put less on the screen and big icons for dummies.

I think it’s fair to say none of these features justify being “copied” Most of the new iOS 5 features were requests from customers that Apple took time to compile into a single release. Google has the advantage of shooting up every single idea they have 3 times a week regardless of if its a useful feature or not. Good = we did it first, bad = well dont use it meh. Take the cloud services and the Xoom, both of them were rushed out JUST to claim the first-in award totally ignoring if they product was ready or not.

I do use WhatsApp, but the adoption among friends has been minimal, still requiring me to heavily use SMS. iMessages may eliminate more of my SMS use, but I doubt it will eliminate enough.

I seem to remember my windows mobile based PPC 6700 on sprint had a touch screen far before apple released the iPhone. I am not saying it was the first device to have a touch screen (check out computer chronicles on youtube) they had touch screen devices in the 80s. Apple certainly wasn’t the first to port it to the phone. You should really be more careful.

If you’d truly like to switch to IM messaging such as iMessage, you could use existing applications such as WhatsApp Messenger, which is cross-platform compatible (Android, iOS, Symbian, BlackBerry OS).

People should just use whatsapp, pingchat or kik – thats all this is. Last 2 of those are free. All are cross platform for those on andriod etc.

1) Apple didn’t invent the smartphone.

2) Apple didn’t invent the touchscreen, not by far.3) Apple invented _their_ notification system. That doesn’t mean it’s the best there is. It could be better, as could Google’s and other vendors’.

the only way to message from one phone to another is text message (sms). if u message from email to email address it’s called well email message, or instant message if its from im to im accounts. u cant replace text messages but u can do them for free with google voice.

UKGuy has it right. Tablets have been around a long time, but few people wanted to buy them. Apple can’t produce enough iPads to keep up with demand. Innovation is at least a part of that formula.

I am an android guy, but I think credit is due to Apple – even if their notification code for IOS is pretty weak.

This does not make sense… iMessage only works across e-mail enabled devices. If you want to text message a regular cell phone you still need to do a text message…

also, we’ll have to wait and see if iMessage kills the carriers’ cash cow before we know if Apple’s innovated here… if it does, then Apple innovation will have been behind the offing, even if that innovation isn’t iMessage itself…

Thats hilarious. AT&T and Verizon rolled over completely for Apple on just about everything because they really wanted the iPhone for those that can’t be suckered into Android. They won’t do anything about this either.
