So are electronics... Not as efficiently, but the reality is, it is more efficient to store an entire library on a single device, than to have millions of pages produced.
Ok assume $100 for a traditional book. Say that book gets replaced every 4-8 years ( not a far stretch). By the time it gets replaced it would have cost the school ~$12-$25 per student. That means with the apple plan they are around the same price maybe a little more. Publishers are getting about the same PLUS they are saving on materials cost.

Good point and an unfortunate reality. Maybe Apple will finally do the right thing and create some jobs by building some of their stuff in their home country. lol. I know....not gonna happen! Seriously though, if Samsung can put up a new factory in Texas to make computer chips for Apple devices then why can't Apple brind back alittle of their work to the USA? Put up a stamping press that spits out those aluminum ipad backs in an area that really needs jobs or something/anything like that. Very sad indeed !

but great on both ends, this cost can be send directly to the student through the schools, the schools could make it a cost the student has to pay inorder to receive access to the book, which is great id rather pay $15 dollars per book that i can do what i like with vs paying 100+ for one or renting one or even getting one for free that i have to give back that i might mess up in some sort of way and end up having to pay for

$15 or less for textbooks*

*price per student.

Currently most school districts give out a textbook to the student at the beginning of the year. At the end, they take it back. Most books they could do this for multiple years on end. All they need to do is purchase the $100 Textbook.

Apple's thing? I'm dead certain that is PER BOOK PER STUDENT. meaning it's tied directly to the student. So as the student goes on, that book CANNOT be given to another student. So, that $15 or less for textbooks? Ads up pretty damn quickly.

That's why the major publishers signed up for this. Because they (in reality) be raking in FAR MORE PROFITS with this than with a paper copy book.
