As such one can see a pattern: First there was ipod getting a good market share in portable music. Then Apple tied it to itunes and the music store service. Then they added more services and more features to the ipods. Then came the iphone that tied directly into the market share of the itunes services. And then ipad doing the same.

You are right, though!  The Galaxy tablet looks so much like a carbon copy of the iPad that I kept imagining it had a home button.  Still, justices and commissions around the world are deciding that Samsung did, indeed, rip off Apple. 

I place a lot more confidence in their considered judgment than juvenile responses!

Perhaps you can enlighten us as to who created an integrated touch system with the set of gestures iOS uses (multi-touch, pinch-zoom, etc.)  for a smartphone *before* Apple?

Apple deserves to hold patents on the touch technology and gestures– pinch-zoom, liquid scroll, etc.  All these other companies should have to be pay licensing fees, especially when they slavishly copy Apple’s brilliant work.

While monopoly may be a poor choice of word by the judge, Apple do have a incumbent position via the itunes music store and their other bundled services. As such, they need to thread carefully or get slapped in the same way Microsoft was when they thought they could bundle a web browser with Windows to compete with Netscape (MS had already pulled a similar trick by bundling a exchange client with a earlier windows version, so that they could talk admins into replacing Novell Netware with Exchange).

Using a majority position in one market (online entertainment content sales) to leverage ones way into a different market (tablets) i a legal minefield.

I say tell Samsung to get off their lazy asses and innovate.
