I've been a professional editor for 27 years, and without question, Final Cut Pro, Lightworks, and Avid are the ONLY fully professional editing solutions that are main stream. There are plenty of other cool solutions, and Premiere's latest effort is absolutely the best. Premiere's ability to manage AVCHD and mixed formats is a joy. However, it is not a preferred environment if you're working on a film that is longer than 20 minutes. I'm sure there are people who will claim they cut a 12 hour mini-series on it, but they also likely find McDonalds a quality eatery. The main issue for the past 15 months or so has been, "why can't Apple get their act together with FCP, so that pros can take advantage of 12 cores, proper rendering, multiple formats, etc. The recent release of iMovie was a preview, no doubt, and for those making home movies or even shorts, it's very powerful and essentially free. Next week, those of us that earn our living cutting films will finally get to see what our patience has purchased. So, lose the PC vs. Mac trash talk - it's limited to those who don't know or don't earn their dead presidents doing what I and many others do.

It is better to live in a world with multiple choices. The fact that we have Avid, Premiere, Final Cut Pro, etc. is a GOOD thing. It is possible to prefer one option without hating all the others. I prefer chocolate ice cream, but I haven't found any value in hating those who prefer vanilla.

It's nice for you that you can build your own computer. But most people don't do this, nor do they want to. I'd like to see this machine that you claim will make the Mac look like an abacus. I'd also like to see you actually use a Mac, after having used a PC for some time, because then you'd see how ridiculously inaccurate your view of Apple really is.

It is also possible to formulate your thoughts, to gather some data to back up your statements, before you post an embarrassing, moronic response on a public forum.

@ "Final Cut Pro was used to cut/edit 90% of the Oscar nominated documentaries this year and 30% of the movies nominated for Best Picture."

Most of them use it because Apple donated those tools free of charge. It's not because that it's better, it's because it's free to start with. Ask any big time movie studio (one that don't build computers) and they'll tell you the same. Where you got your 90% is beyond me. I can say 99.99% of quality movies were edit using Premiere and PC. Hard evidence? Who need that right?

FCP being used for blah blah blah % of movies has nothing to do with the software itself and more to do with the design community thinking apple is the only kid on the block. For what you pay for a high end mac pro do edit this kind of work, I can build a PC for A a fraction of the cost or B, so powerful it makes mac look like an abacus.

Owns what? The amateur market. Or the "I download my NLE from Rapidshare" market? Yep then you're probably right.

Final Cut Pro was used to cut/edit 90% of the Oscar nominated documentaries this year and 30% of the movies nominated for Best Picture. The picture that took home the Oscar for best editing was cut on FCP. I'd venture to guess that all of the rest of the movies were either cut on Lightworks (King's Speech) or Avid.

Premiere "ownz"? Haha. Maybe if you're into editing video game capture footage or if you can't afford a Mac.
