It appears that Microsoft has been coasting for years and it's finally about to catch up with them. I don't know how often we're going suffer article updates about Windows 8. Possibly every other day for about a year until it comes out. The pundits will continue to say how much a Windows 8 tablet is going to hurt Apple's iPad because Microsoft will somehow manage to squeeze a bloated desktop OS into a slim tablet. A year is a long, long way off in terms of mobile changes. By the time Windows 8 arrives, Apple may be on to the next latest and greatest thing. The future is hard to pinpoint.

Now, of course, is the talk about some $250 7" Amazon tablet that doesn't even run a reference version of Android OS. It supposed to have limited touch-screen technology and some single core processor. It sounds fine for what it is being meant to do to push Amazon content, but the pundits keeping hyping this tablet as some iPad killer which is utter nonsense. Amazon is basically competing with the Nook Color and that's all. Wall Street is trying to make a big thing about it just to keep pumping up Amazon's lofty P/E of 105 and absolutely, unbelievably high share price. If Amazon sells a couple of million of these tablets, investors will go ape wild. It's not as though anyone will really know how many of these tablets are sold because Amazon is notorious for hiding Kindle sales numbers. And Wall Street doesn't seem to care for some reason.

Android vendors will continue to design ever larger displays for their smartphones, turning them in to medium size tablets. I'm not sure where that strategy is going to lead them. Consumers putting medium size tablets to their heads to make phone calls. It doesn't really seem all that practical. I guess Apple will just have to muddle along with a less than 4" screen for the iPhone but I doubt that consumers will even care. The iPhone 4 will continue to sell in large numbers and the iPhone 5 will just kick it into overdrive. Look for record-breaking sales numbers for iPhones this quarter even if the iPhone 4 is old in Android smartphone terms.

Look for record-breaking sales numbers for iPhones this quarter even if the iPhone 4 is old in Android smartphone terms.

gee whiz, AG, where have you been? the moon?

it's an open secret Sprint is getting the iPhone, while T-Mobile has announced they are not. and new AT&T gear has been spotted at Apple stores, which means LTE is coming.

about the only "maybe" left for the hardware is NFC? and apps could do a lot more with it than just pay bills.

AirPlay in iOS 5 already pretty much does via Apple TV what you propose via Screen Mirroring. expect to see a lot of new/updated game apps that take advantage of it starting next month - great Xmas stocking stuffers. it's not "console quality" - the hardware can't support it. but more important is multiplayer capabilities, and we will have to wait and see how well that works.

wireless Screen Mirroring of all apps may become the biggest hit of all. not just games but everything on your big screen HDTV. great for media of course. but a real revolution for web browsing on a TV. every TV web browser to date has totally sucked - the UI is hopelessly clumsy. but just seeing on the big screen, sharing with others, what you're actually doing on your iPad totally solves this problem. you can actually have fun.

there is plenty of meat on these bones. the pundits may go ho-hum, but consumers will go bonkers for it.

Yes, it's looking like Apple will end up with the entire PC, Music, Phone, Television, Game, Processor business. Apple is now just too strong for anyone in those markets to try and compete.

So good days are ahead for everyone... The end of Microsoft, the recording / movie companies, Nokia, Sony, XBox, Nintendo, and Intel are quickly coming to an end.

So the dream is almost there!

Most of the major IOS 5 upgrades are copying android to keep up. Pull down notifications, wifi sync, icloud, etc. The new iphone 5 will have dual core processor and maybe NFC,LTE? They are increasing the screen size to 4 inches? All of these are existing android features months or years old already. Who is copying who and trying to play catch up?

Should be a really nice phone and will definitely sell well. If there is not some major surprise or breakthrough it will be a let down and another 14 months to wait until the next iphone.

I am hoping for something spectacularly innovative or something new no one has even talked about yet. We will see....

meh i've been using iOS 5 beta for months, really nothing to even be excited about, almost every updated feature has already existed in android for years, pretty big let down if you ask me. no doubt it'll sell well tho, but only at iphones current rate, iOS is flat, it isn't gaining ground really, people who own iphones, replace their iphones, they aren't seeing many new adopters anymore, while android and wp7 are. flame me all you want, i own every smartphone platform and hold no loyalties, simply expressing that i don't think the iphone 5 is much to be excited about, since i've been using it for months already and can't find anything "new", more like apple is playing catch-up, unsuccessfully.
