Apple Event confirmed for March 2nd: iPad 2 incoming

Apple has sent out invites for an event on Wednesday, March 2, where we're expecting to see the company announce the second-generation iPad. The event will take place at 10am in the morning, Pacific time, at Apple's usual haunt, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.

Based on rumors up until now, the iPad 2 is predicted to have the same 9.7-inch display size and resolution as the first-gen model, but use a new IPS panel with improved outdoor visibility and reduced reflections. The chassis is expected to have a flatter back, more angled sides, and be generally thinner than the current iPad, while there'll also be front and rear cameras added in.

In addition to the iPad 2, we wouldn't be surprised to see Apple give a preview of iOS 5.0 for iPad. That's expected to debut improved multi-tasking and notifications support, long criticisms of iOS in contrast to other platforms. SlashGear will be at the event next week, and you know we'll be bringing back all the details as they happen!
