Apple dropped $390M for Anobit say sources

Word of Apple buying up Israeli flash memory maker Anobit surfaced first last month. At the time, the price that Apple reportedly paid for Anobit was rumored to be in the $500 million range. Bloomberg has two sources that are said to be shareholders in the Anobit purchase that have stepped up and offered price news.

According to the two shareholders, Apple spent $390 million to purchase Anobit. The agreement to buy is said to have been signed on January 6 according go the sources. The two sources weren't approved to speak about the deal publically; Apple wanted the details kept quiet. An Apple spokesman did confirm the purchase January 10, but offered no details.

The move will should help Apple to secure needed memory chips for its products at better prices. Apple is already the world's largest buyer of NAND flash memory. This deal could be bad for the companies that Apple buys its NAND flash memory from right now. Apple consumes about 23% of all NAND flash memory produced reports Bloomberg.
