And that speaks to my point. Not all markets have those services available, or are they affordable. All those options are available in specific urban areas. I'm buying the top tier of service available in my area for business users.

but don't get me wrong, I'm not ready to give up those resources.. they're just ahead of the curve. the functional promise hasn't been realized for many buyers.

Its very dumb for any business to combine TV smarts with a big expensive flat screen display.

TV monitors (big screen LCD displays) are expensive assets that people expect to last many years. I had my first HD tv for 9 years and I expect to keep my current 58 inch LED LCD for at least as long.

A computer that works like an iphone or DVR is WILL become obsolete anywhere from 1 to 3 years after it's come out. Building this into an expensive TV will quickly anger people who buy their screens for the long haul.

same point as the article made... i strongly feel there's no need for apple to make an actual TV display. on top of all the reasons above... how expensive would it be? TV's of GOOD quality go for about $2,000 for 55inches these days. Apple always makes things at a premium and good materials. the costs would sound like it'd be in the $3,000 range. too expensive when people can just buy a normal tv and the apple tv device. unless they don't make a 55inch or LARGE tv. ... stick strictly to the lower end.... which isn't apple style. besides, their 27" monitor is like 2k already.

I agree. The TV panel itself is not an idea that's ready for prime time yet. There's no significantly important improvement steps (holographs?) immediately available, and there are lots of good monitors. But a well functioning content hub device that attaches to your already competent TV, and with an intuitive interface will add value. Particularly if it utilizes Siri or some other innovative means of controlling it.

The bottleneck in the current generation of Apple wireless content devices is the "pipeline" that feeds them. As long as the DSL pipeline is as restrictive as it is now, the dream of a full house wireless network is just that... a dream. I've reached the end of my expansion (5 Apple TVs to 5 LCD Tvs,, 3 computers, 2 printers, 6 pairs of speakers, 6 Airport Express, 2 BluRay, and a couple smartphones, iPad, etc.). At this point any one of the Apple TV units, or one of the blueRay players chokes the network, and causes the picture to frequently stop, and re-buffer, and my speakers to drop sound when streaming from iTunes.

Obviously I'm not using all devices at the same time. It won't support that. Frankly, it compromises the perceived promise of streaming. Purchased movies on current generation AppleTV units are sometimes not available for 3 hours, and in the meantime the network is slowed to a crawl for any other functions. Streaming might be the "holy grail" but it just doesn't work in the typical home for more than one or two devices. This is where improvement is needed.

Perhaps Apple sees themselves driving the demand, but without decent DSL support all this stuff is still just a hobby, a dream. Why aren't the tech writers talking about this rather than just oohing and aahing over the latest Apple product offering?

This thinking seems a bit short sighted. The introduction of a TV allows apple to potentially own the living room. Possibilities of gaming, Facetime, Siri- all in the living room and woven in with your iPad, iPhone or Mac. If it was JUST a TV with the current Apple TV embedded into it, this shortsightedness would make sense, but it is what it is- shortsighted thinking.
