Having been to AVID’s offices in Burbank, I can say this is a myth, going back years. AVID had one Mac pro, and a while lot of HP Z series workstations for editing.

Also, NAB 2012, the PC was pretty dominant fit video and post production work.

Please name three things related to Audio/Video/Image editing that you actually CANNOT do on a Windows or even Linux machine. After the death of PowerPC, macs stopped being much different to PCs on a hardware level since 2005. On the software level, you can make the easier to use argument but I get tired of this perpetuated myth that Macs are somehow ‘better’ for video editing.

Just because you and/or your colleagues are more used to Mac software does not mean that software on other platforms are lacking or even that the software on your familiar platform aren’t. I love my MBPro but this senseless PC bashing, based on absolutely nothing needs to stop.

Professionals need Mac Pro. It’s the best platform for Audio/Video/Picture editing. In all my years of editing audio and video, I’ve never once come across a pc user. And the iMac/Macbook Pro lines are just too underpowered!
Apple has left Mac Pro to die and it’s the professionals all around the world who will suffer. Apple only cares about the average person who surfs the internet.
And we probably got the EU Court to thank for this new regulation. “The components are using 0.1 Watts more than required. This does not conform with our new environment green tax we just made up”.

You really have to have money to blow to buy a Mac Pro anymore. Apple should have retired it. I think its clear from Apple’s profits and dwindling Mac sales that Apple does not think Mac’s are top priority anymore.
