I am curious about how this works as a media PC. The HDMI dongle mirrors the iPad to whatever device you want it to. But the image still shows on the iPad itself. It could be very annoying to set this up next to your TV and see a tiny screen and a huge screen. Is there an option to turn off the iPad display when using this?

Why cant apple just figure out how to do this wireless. make the adapter the apple TV and make it so the ipad can be mirrored over wifi instead of having to use a stupid dongle and tethering you to the display device. They can share media this way with airplay why not the mirroring.

How is the HDMI port proprietary? And there doesn't seem to be any shortage of 30 pin dock connector devices available, whatever the licensing requirements are to use it.
