Apple did this kind of thing way back when the company first launched with applications requiring heavy licensing fees through Apple, which almost killed their company numerous times. (Microsoft had to rescue them so that they could still have a competitor to avoid monopoly laws.)

Looks like they're about to learn that lesson a second time?

This just shows what a hypocritical company Apple is and Steve Jobs is--they bash Flash as proprietary and want an open web, bla, bla, bla, but wait, we don't want you do use the web for anything, all must flow through the holy iTunes mecca.

What a crock. . . .
Just one more nail in the Apple coffin that ensures I will never purchase a single Apple device.

As far as them owning the devices. . . SORRY, Apple you don't own the devices. The user that purchased the device does. Unless you are leasing the devices, which you are NOT, you have no say over how users should be able to use them and this is why the FCC needs to step on your proverbial neck!

Apple is all about power play and leverage. They own the iPhone and iPad users, who are addicted to their devices, so forcing vendors to sell through the app store means bigger revenues for Apple. Apple product users are only allowed to see the world through the Apple glasses, and they have to pay their dues when they do so. Why so many people are happy with that is beyond comprehension.

If true--this will be a major mistake by Apple. Could Apple really have this tin of an ear? The users want subscriptions on Kindle app--and Apple is looking to ruin the app altogether. This will not make me want to buy books on iBook. In fact the mear thought of this policy makes me want to remove iBook.
