well apple is just a oversized iphone, just look at it. the user interface is the same. just like the android user interface. so that satement is kinda baseless. almost everyone with an apple product buys all there stuff. im quite sure that alot of customers including myself havent brought a iPAD. its just another UI that is put on a bigger screen with the some of the smartphone features taking away. smh apple users jump to buy everything apple puts in the market for sale.

The iPad seems to be a success but one might say that it is only because there is no competition. The competition is still gearing up (Android, WebOS and the bigger Android ecosys manufacturers).

I am a fan of the Adam but it will change nothing in the short run because they cannot ship more than 100K per month, top.

I believe the Motorola Xoom and the Atrix may change things drastically. If the Xoom can sell under $400, their sales would essentially explode after the first positive reviews. At $500 they would sell a lot but their volume would grow slower since the iPad would be more appealing. Same if the Atrix sells at $500 with a tablet jacket: sales explosion.

Even the HP/Palm tablets may take significant share from the iPad in 2011 if they can sell in volume (HP should be able) and their tablet adaptation of WebOS is worthy.

The iPad2 may successfully battle if they actually ship with a retina display, camera, SD card slot, more RAM and at least dual core 1Ghz SOC. If some of these are missing they are going to loose a lot of market share in 2011.

After owning both. til honeycomb tablets come out there really is no competition to ipad. The samsung galaxy tab is stuck on froyo, samsung has no word if will even be updated. And per google android was never meant for tablet. I will admit the drag n drop feature with samsung tablet is easier, but you can jailbreak ipad to do that just not as simple. Easier portability on samsung galax, able to carry in my pant backpocket or front pockets. Coolest thing is cams, but then realization how silly I look holding tablet up to take pics, especially when my iphone 4 takes better pics. Dolphin browser works better than stock browser and app I miss the most is netflix. and finally this comment was written using samsung galaxt tablet.

You know the Apple COO is probably correct in his statements.
Apple really shouldn’t have any real concern because if history repeats itself and I am sure it will, the tablets have not been any kind of threat nor have the portable media players in general been a threat to Apple products.
I am not an Apple fan, although their products seem great. But if you if you are going to compete with a product that has years of experience getting it right, you better have all your products better in every way than the Product King which is Apple.
CES show produced some outstanding products that should sell relatively easy, but the companies need to put up or shut up.
So at this time Apple got nothing to be concerned over IMHO.

You had better get the product out fast, get it right this time and get it out at a more reasonable price than Apple. My guess is, this is the only second chance you will have.
Problem is the producers of the android tablets are just waaaaaaay to slow at getting the products out. Just SLOW

The very fact that they are resisting 7 inch form factor makes me believe strongly that Apple will come out with a 7 inch ipad! Remember ipod shuffle? Also, they are talking about other platforms in their earnings call only proves that they are scared of competition especially Android!

They should, but they don’t. And not everyone has the option to post screenshots either.

I’ve tested Opera 10 and IE 8. If I have to install a new browser just for the privilege to remove my typos on SG, I’d rather appear illiterate. Which won’t be anything much worse than some of your contributors.

Android fans should take heart in the fact that Microsoft is completely clueless when it comes to tablets. At least you do have a good tablet based release coming out, and it looks like Motorola might be the one who gets it right. No doubt they will sell….

Its funny how some STILL don’t get the tablet market… and STILL mock Apple as if they are the ones that are clueless.

Let the numbers APple just released do the talking.

Seriously… 7″ might work for some, but it IS a scaled up smartphone, at least until the Droid makes 7″ (by the way its going, its already ridiculously huge). 10″ is a netbook sized screen, WAY off the mark for a smartphone, and obviously the right size to sell.

Time will tell if they are right on the 7″ device comment. I think some will like it, but personally I don’t see a use for a 4.x” Android phone AND a 7″ Android tablet. Really… 3″ (thats what SHE said)

I just love to see Senior Executives like Cook as excited and aggressive about their company as the founder. It probably means that the aggressive competitive streak runs deeply through Apple. After years of derision, they have overcome everything that has been thrown at them and they are now to be feared. What an achievement in the face of so many extremely competent worldwide competitors. Well done to the whole team, you make the most exciting electronic gadgets on the planet.

Thanks what retelling what Cook said. He is right, by the way. Almost a year after the iPad, and no serious competitor, that’s just sad. There’s Archos, and Samsung, but they are both lacking in one way or another (low screen resolution for the Archos, no WiFi-only option for the Tab). Even though I’d pick either an Archos70 or a Galaxy Tab before the iPad in a heartbeat, they still haven’t convinced me to spend my cash…
