How about Apple building the Wi-Fi network that Steve Jobs wanted five years ago?
This will not only put it at equal footing with the cell phone carriers, but also give Apple a fresh conduit to deliver the full spectrum of services for the iPad and iPhone.
Indeed, with it’s own Wi-Fi Apple will have the new niche all to itself — and beyond anything previously dreamed possible.
Moreover, as an alternate way to deliver volume content, Wi-Fi will make Apple the king of video entertainment, as well as an indispensible player in all cloud services.
To be sure, Steve Jobs had the right idea — though he did not have the money to do it.
Apple now does, and should not squander it’s singular opportunity for lasting greatness.

Apple has already stated the difference in production costs for an iPhone is approx $50 more and the only reason they don’t produce them in the US is because of a lack of skilled labor.

Hense my statement about beginning a training/hiring scheme. The publicity from such a stunt would be huge.

Build a US based manufacturing plant? You’re talking to a company that imports most of it’s goods from oversea. Who cares if their own country is in an economic crisis. It’s all about the bottom line. If they decided that the US is worth a shot in manufacturing then it’s a good thing for American, but I doubt it.

Maybe they’ll buy out all their competitors who knows?

“You should never underestimate the buying power of the ignorant masses” said my dad many years ago…. Apple is proof of such! Even Exxon Mobil, the 2nd and formerly the 1st largest corporation, doesn’t have that kind of “excess cash…. just sitting around!”

This is as absurd as it is obviously apparent, and with whatever they decide to do with it, if it is manufacturing related, the government should take a long hard look at it with the word (not the game) monopoly in mind…. NO ONE has that kind of dough to screw around with and doesn’t attempt with all that power to wipe out competition for good!

I normally don’t give 2 flying f#cks about Apple announcements.

But this interests me. That’s a lot of money. I expect this to be a manufacturing centered announcement…perhaps their decision to start training more engineers to start a US based production plant?

Or their decision to start their own hardware business to remove parts outsourcing from SAMSUNG,LG and SHARP.
