i don't know about anyone else but i hold my phone in the upright position at the bottom! how stupid of Apple to design the phone in such a way that where most people place their hands on the unit, hinders the damn phone reception. Stupidity!

I bought an iphone 4 from Singapore a week back. I went to an apple studio and they informed me that i could only buy online so I was directed to a mobile phone shop at Simlin tower. I paid over USD 800. I had to pay 140 SIN dollar extra for sim registration as the shop informed me that the micro sim needs to be registered else I wouldnt be able to use else where and it was SIN dollar 140 per sim.I agreed to that too not wanting to get an illegally unlocked phone - Pay little more but get a good product since our country dont have access at apple facilities.

I was informed that the phone was registered and can be upgraded on line and had apple warranty world wide for a year.I believed since I was asked to get a formal receipt and claim VAT refund at the airport.I did that too.

The first phone I got had no sound so the shop replaced that and the second phone if had any problem I was asked to go to an apple shop for warranty services or replacement.

No my frustrations began.. after I got back to Bangkok I put the sim but the network would come, go at frequent intervals, network would come and again after a while would dissapear and says no service, all my calls go to voice mail and call back service.

I went to applie i studio since I was told I had world wide warranty. They refused and said I would have to go back to singapore,I tried all through help online, restored, set to automatic carrier setting, used a rubber bumper but still the same. Even if I just leave it on the table untouched the network signal would go.

Please help, what should I do .. too expensive for to me go back to singapore again just to replace the and the shop cleasrly told me if I had any problem to go to the apple shop for replacement.I have a receipt from that shop for any authentication.

Thanks so much

My iphone 4 experience is rather different. Even using the headphones (meaning that the phone is completely free of contact with the body) the quality of the call is very poor. Broken up sound as if using a poor internet connection. It's not signal strength that's the problem - it's signal processing. The old 3G was much better. And this seems to be in both directions. Ringing my phone and leaving a message on my answer machine the result is very difficult to hear clearly

This is a fundamental design flaw which could have been easily overcome had Apple covered the antenna band with a non-conductive material. Clearly they regard the sex appeal of the iPhone to be more important than its function, which is daft really as we all buy protective cases and skins which massively detract from the appearance of the unaltered product anyway. Of course Apple know this, so they are able to present a physically beautiful, but technically flawed product at launch when really it should have been presented encased in one of their bumpers which will be the reality for most people.

Very cynical approach to suddenly start producing their own protective skins to coincide with the first iPhone which actually REQUIRES one to work properly, not just for protection. Apple should have been far more open about the situation and should definitely have bundled the rubber skin with the handset, or perhaps actually coated the antenna with rubber/plastic as part of the design.

Now they're going to sell you "How to hold your iPhone" seminars, videos and of course the inevitable "iPhone 4 for Dummys" books. If you hold it one way it's good for WiFi use. Another way would work for 3G, etc! ......hold it any other way and they'll shock your hand through the bezel antenna (so the whole object of holding it will be not to hold it, so as to contact more than one antenna section, to prevent a shock)! ....hmm that's why they needn't that bigger battery!!!

Next thing you know, is if you don't hold it improperly, Apple's Thought Police will arrest you. Then "Apple Ministry of Truth" will throw you "Down the Memory Hole". In order to "White Out Truth" that they totally bungled this one!

Now we know that the old phones are better than the new ones, from the WWDC WiFi fiasco. At least the old one works most of the time!

btw... hope they don't start suing users for holding their phones wrong! :O

I think its funny how apple can dictate how you use your phone. Now they will dictate how you hold your phone? I dont like how sites like this and most other websites will defend most shortcomings from apple devices. If this were another product with this design flaw, most sites would tear into that company for it.

its really sad..

This is why I laugh at anybody that tries to tell me Apple is superior at hardware. My first iPhone 2G the speakerphone echoed. I had it replaced that one did too. Then my iPhone 3G fluctuates constantly between charging and not charging. Now this. This just goes to show that Apple is subject to hardware problems just like everybody else.
