You have to look at the value add for each step of the process. For a $600 iPhone, Apple pockets $300 is gross margin (roughly), while Foxconn is making 1% profit. While it does create jobs, it doesn’t create wealth.

We are an information based society and our prosperity comes from innovation and ideas. Not from doing the job a machine can do (and will do as labor rates rise).

Your comment also neglects that for a manufacturer there is an entire supply chain of components and sub-manufacturers that are in China. It’s truly not as simple as you make it sound.

Now that Apple has a built in customer base, why can’t they move some of this work back to the U.S.? I’ve heard a number as high as 500k jobs that could be here, but are in China. This is almost enough to make me stop buying their products. Almost.

You Chinese need to stop rioting at our and our required by Chinese government partnership stores to buy our products. Your making us push the workers to hard. Please search apple store riot in China on Google (that is of course unless your in China since you won’t be able to do such a search due to Google being blocked)

It is hard to believe that we are outsourcing manufacturing to China when US economy isn’t doing well. Although apple is helping US ecomony. I would have love to see a “Made in USA” on apple product and help out our own economy.

It’s nice to see that Apple is so happy with China and is talking to Chinese officials to expand their presence. Let’s just keep buying the iPhone and be blind to our own demise, just as long as I can get my favorite app and keep tweeting I’m happy!
