No, they just effect the markets differently. MS is primarily a software company and up till now they have focused mainly on the PC market and haven’t had the same effect in other markets.

While Apple does both software and hardware, with the focus on where in the markets they are most successful and have managed to effect other markets like MS has effected the PC market.

Really, Apple didn’t become one of the richest companies in the world by being nice.

At least MS has occasionally done something like contribute code to Linux and run Open Source projects and so it’s not like they’re pure evil all the time.

While also it’s not like the Bill Gates in charge days where everyone wouldn’t dare meet with him without a room full of lawyers between them… and now he’s a philanthropist. ;-P

Apple would be as bad as Microsoft or worse if they had the marketshare. However, the results of Microsoft’s actions have been to undermine competition, innovation, and consumer choice far beyond the scale that either Apple or Google have managed.

Oh, how so? All three have used anti-competitive tactics, all three use lawsuits to gain advantages, all three have used patent trolling tactics, all three have been fined and sued for anti-competitive actions, all three have had scandals of one sort of another over the years… I’m not seeing the big difference?

Though mainly it’s between Apple and MS, with things like licensing practices, closed markets, etc. While on Google’s side it’s usually a result of one of their partners instead of them directly.

I am not a fan of Microsoft, Google or Apple. But Microsoft really is an evil company in ways the other two are not.
