Ridiculous U.S. Patent Office, have not seen a Casio or Sharp Solar Power Calculators? It is solar powered electronic device.

“power management to provide stable charging” or not… it is still greedy and absurd to patent something like this… just like when Apple patented “multi-touch”.

n900, what’s the point of reading this site if we have to read the source documents. That’s the Slashgear writer’s job, to read the source and summarize it for us. Evidently in this case he did a very poor job.

READ the claims in the patent. They are provided in the source link. They’re trying to patent chargers and power-management to provide some sort of stable charging, not the whole of “solar powered charging”.

Gotta read the WHOLE patent application folks.

Bob you are right.. perhaps Steve should patent RICE too… Apple & Steve are too great thinkers / innovators.. but the corporate mind set is turning them to be greedy to preempt others and this is simply not right

This is ridiculous! I’ve been building micro solar devices for over 10 years, sharing my technologies with mainstream and third world countries….to “patent” something as general as this is covetous as a sign of typical greed, verses showing compassion for true sustainability. Looks like I better hurry and patent the sun light before they do….wth? Seriously Apple? You don’t have enough money already…….put it back into the environment your destroying……. Just my “2 sense”

I don’t even understand how you could patent something so general. It’s like patenting a screen on a phone.

There’s already loads of mobile phones with integrated solar cells etc. So this can not be general patent on such device.
