All this stuff was here, but you've got to admit that a simple file transfer was rife with problems.

For one thing, I normally have my mbp configured to not show up in all that public crap. Airdrop, by its on/off nature, automatically simplifies the process of messing with share settings in the prefpane.

So this is like FaceTime, another iChat feature that Apple is extracting and rebranding. What was the problem with video chat in iChat? What was wrong with bonjour file sharing using iChat or the "Shared" section of the Finder sidebar? Why do we need new names and even new protocols for things that already exist in the os and work just fine? Airdrop? FaceTime? Apple is blocking afp from iOS devices so they can either force "cloud" usage or rebrand it too. All this stuff is slowing advancement and just adding to fracturization and eye candy of the forthcoming oses. No thanks.
