OR, if you have an iPhone you can just DO NOTHING since it actually requires you to actively turn it on before it will do anything on an iPhone.

OR, you can just get an iPhone with iOS5, since its NOT EVEN INSTALLED ON iPhone anymore

For ANDROID HOWEVER, you can root your phone, replace the rom, reboot, try another rom, hack into it, run some scripts, look for carrier-iq, run some more scripts, reboot again, check the debug output, make sure its not logging your keystrokes, run a different rom, and clean up.

Sorry "mahony d" but the point of the Dev who found CarrierIQ in android was that it DID log every keystroke and even intercepted text messages. The CarrierIQ company can say all it wants, but the proof is in the Dev's video - it does record keystrokes.

For all the rest of you android nuts - not only can you turn off the diagnostics on an iPhone, you can look at all the information sent to Apple when you have diagnostics turned on. It is very transparent. Why doesn't Google do the same?

"We stopped supporting CarrierIQ with iOS 5 in most of our products and will remove it completely in a future software update."

I like how Apple says it's not on iOS in *most* of our products. They don't distinguish between iPads and iPhones, for example, and in not doing so can continue to play with words and treat their users like cattle. Plus, they are obviously back-tracking and plan on getting rid of any evidence in future updates. Typical BS from Apple.

Android, on the other hand, never had Carrier IQ installed. Selected carriers choose to install this as a 3rd-party add-on. I think it's high time we start seeing some class-action suits involving all parties who think it's ok to continue to track, spy and circumvent our privacies under the thin veil of diagnostics. Screw them all!

PS: A Nexus user myself so I can't join the party.

Ps, would love to see the hacker who exposed all of this get ahold of some ios 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 builds to see if apple is being 100% truthful about the opt-in and that only dropped call data was ever collected.

You are not correct. If you want to believe everything you hear then listen to this. Carrier IQ the maker of the root-kit says that they do not record keystrokes. So it does not record keystrokes on android phones. you can believe that as much as you can believe apples response Also, you can bet if apple is going to make even 50 bucks on it they will use it. Also nobody said it was on 100% of android phones. Have you ever been asked about Carrier IQ on your iphone? Of course not, so it is in use and right now several devs are doing tests on the iphone to prove it. Wouldnt be the first time apple lied.

Apple's is OPT-IN, meaning basically that no one but programmers used it.

Google's is automatically on, and can't be turned off, and logged keystrokes.

So basically 100% of Android phones had this on, logging your keystrokes.
0% of iPhones had this on unless the user WANTED it on, and even then it wasn't logging keystrokes.

Hmm... false equivalency anyone.

Seems the Fandroids are reaching for straws here, trying to cast away the eyes away from them.
