A chance to test different ideas especially with the longer term in mind – on a smaller scale, for example I don’t doubt that Apple were testing a version of the original iPad with a camera. It may never see the light of day, or alternatively may make it to a future generation. At some point it’s hard to imagine that Mac OS X and iOS won’t merge in some way to create some kind of hybrid device.
