Surely by now you’ve heard of the big split-up between NBC and Apple. I think it’s actually getting more attention than when Brad and Jennifer broke up. You’d think that by now that the waters would have calmed down, but sadly the mud-slinging seems to have only just begun.

New allegations against NBC have surfaced that accuse them of trying to grab a cut of every iPod sale. NBC Persident Jeff Zucker has been quoted as saying “Apple sold millions of dollars worth of hardware off the back of our content and made a lot of money. They did not want to share in what they were making off the hardware or allow us to adjust pricing.”
Personally, I think that NBC has a point here. What would Apple’s iPod sales be like without content from companies like NBC? In fact, what would television sales be without NBC? They should be getting a cut of every TV sold. They also sell DVDs of their hit shows, so why not get a cut of DVD players too?

Nice zing Chris
There is only one thing worth watching on NBC… and that’s The Office. And even that is stolen from the Brit’s (I hope they are getting their cut NBC). Everything else is carbon copy, unoriginal crap! By the way Mr. Zucker, there is no way in hell I’d buy an iPod just to watch “must miss tv”

That’s a very narrow-minded statement. If NBC deserves a cut of every TV and DVD player sold, then what about all other great TV production companies worldwide? Hardware would become priceless. It’s typical that Americans only know America, and of course…only NBC. Furthermore, what would be NBC nowadays without the hardware, TV’s, DVD Players, iPods? Better that NBC introduces a disruptive business model and invent innovative hardware too instead of crying (if they want to make money from hardware too). That Apple makes money from content is another case. They own a great distribution platform for selling content, and it’s quite normal that every distributor gets a margin on what they sell, like Apple gives a margin to their resellers too. Maybe NBC can start selling iPods too if they want a piece of the hardware too. Problem solved, isn’t it? The market is open for everyone to make wonderful products, content and services. But without crying, please.
