Eclipse better that Xcode?!!!!!!
And the Device emulator for Android is so slow that if you want to test properly your code you have to own the device(s). And sorry but Java is great for Server but UI!!!!!
I really like Java, I have been working with it since a long time, but never ever understood why Google decided to use that.
And for your info Objective-c its pretty awesome when you know how to use it.

You're right, for a developer, a new language is never a problem by itself. But having to take time to learn a new language from scratch, since Obj-C don't have many things in common with other popular language, and still be forced to live with all the restrictions coming with it, and then, having to deal with Apple to 'approve' your code, it's a really big guess. While your entering this learning curve, your projects aren't evolving. At the speed the market is going today, time is money. Personnally, being able to create an Android or a Blackberry app on any type of computer using a portable language like Java really helps me select my platform. Java also has its flaws, but the integration in the market is way better with this language. I must admit that all those restrictions from Apple aren't only negative, but I think that a bad developer makes bad application that will just not be used by customers. I don't want a big brother to tell me which color my t-shirt must be today, I know what's good for me without anyone forcing me to remove this awful pink shirt! There's no perfect platform. Having this said, I hope you'll be able to create the next multi-million dollars app. 30% of a million is a lot, but I'm sure you'll be satisfied with the other 70% ;). Good luck!

Android vs Apple... I personally believe Apple will fall in the mobile
and computer market at some point. Their price to performance ratio is
absolute garbage on all fronts. Both on the software and hardware
levels. I am an Android developer for mostly hardware specific stuff. I
do test software on occasion. I have owned multiple iPhones and twice as
many Android based phones. I have done hardware and software testing
for both, as well as hardware modification for a few different types of
android devices. I am not saying that iOS is a bad thing nor am I saying
that the iDevices are bad platforms. But for the money they want, they
should give better quality in both software and hardware. Now, to be
blunt, Apple is a corrupt, cultist, dictatorship of a company. That will
ultimately be their downfall. They show no respect for the consumer,
for their employees, for their competition and more importantly the
contracts they have made with other companies, like for instance
Samsung, the company that provides them most of the hardware that goes
into their devices. I find it incredibly stupid for them to sue the
company that is pretty much keeping them in business, for an
idea/technology that Apple, in no way was a part of creating or
developing in any way. Something that has been done for years before
their devices were mainstream. I can see that in the future, Samsung and
many of the other companies that are in contract with Apple, will
ultimately tell them to F off and them give them the finger. And I
personally cannot wait for Apple to fall.

Android phones dominate the marker because the are 20 different phones of varying qualities of hardware. Not all Android phones are equal. So 20 vs 1, and the iOS App Store is still averaging 1 billion downloads a month, which this article fails to mention. I think that Android and iOS will continue to co-exist, just as Windows and OS X co-exist. I do not think either is better or worse than the other, it boils down to user preference. I think that Android has an image problem though. Every few months, you hear a story about different malware apps that have crept into the Android Market. That is the downfall of open-source, is that it invites a hacker community that tries to destroy what people have created. I enjoy the "good" hacker community that tries to make better products for everyone. Also, Google has lost control of Android to the point that there are some terrible devices out there with Android software. These being the cheap phones with garbage hardware, however, most people cannot tell the difference between what is a software failure and a hardware failure, so they blame the "Android phone", when it actuality it was the phone's cheap hardware that caused the phone to suck.

You are working for a company, Im a self-employed app dev. I develop for iOS because it's easier to make money with iOS. Does iOS get in my nerves with all the restrictions? Absolutely but these restrictions set it apart from the mess that Amdroid is. I don't care so much about Objective C. As a Software Engineer you should know how to build good software regardless of the Programming Language, not everything can be Java and C#. What bothers me is that Apple wants 30% I wish that were a bit lower.

How much, I don't know since we build apps for other companies and I'm not working in the finance dept. I see where you want to go, but I really think the iPod, iPhone and iPad are great devices. I'm just talking about the developer side. For the 'money' thing you're talking about, the Apple sect is really great to put that in your head that the iOS platform is so hot to make money with a great idea (I've been in those Apple party), but this is true for any platform.
iOS isn't a bad platform, but after building apps for iOS, Android, and BlackBerry, I don't really understand why developers like to create apps with an outdated language using a syntax of the 70's that needs 50% more typing, in a limited environment that doesn't even allow you to test your code on your own device and that adds so many restrictions that some application can't even be developed using this platform. For Blackberry, the development environment stability has always been a big problem, so, the choice is really simple. Android. Easy to install and to use development environment, using a language that allows us way more options and third party APIs integration, and a device that let the developer test its code and control its own device. And all that without being forced to use a single connection software like iTunes, the less user friendly piece of software ever been created that tries to manage all your media content and the color of your underwears.

This article really makes me laugh. I'll continue to create processes that will not get killed after 10 minutes ;).

I respect iOS developers, I just can't understand them.

Their metrics only reflect developers that use their analysis software, and only reflect recent app developments. While this might be an indicator iOS will perform better than Android... these metrics really aren't guaranteed to be accurate nor all-encompassing (which is how they're treating the data).

Oh I forgot that IOS doesn't know what is reflash :) I use this term all the time with my N900. So sorry to rename the DFU restore mode to reflash.

How old are you to calling me kid? Anyway this is pretty off topic by the way.

Why should I care about this crap?
I have an Android phone and that is all that is matter. I can remove and redownload apps as many frigging times as I want if I wanted to. Oh wait Android can easily back up your apps and install from your own backup. While IOS you have to resync every frigging time you reflashed. So I should not give a damn about this.

I have heard that metric used before but I don't quite understand what it means. Does it mean they get more downloads on iOS than Android for the same app?

Flurry's data seems to be based strictly on people who use their service.
"Anecdotally, developers consistently tell us that they make more money on iOS, about three to four times as much. To be sure, we pulled a sample of in-app purchase data from a set of top apps with versions on both iOS and Android..." - from the flurry article.
This seems like a really weird way to estimate total revenue. It seems to just say, "out of apps that are on both ios and android, ios versions sold better."
That said, I'm sure apple is still dominating, especially with the ipad.
