Any.DO Cal iPhone app arrives in beta form, we go hands on

The popular to-do list manager Any.DO is getting a new addition. The company just launched Cal in beta form today, a new calendar app for iPhone that seamlessly integrates with the Any.DO app. Users will be able to use the app as a traditional calendar, as well as add tasks and to-dos that you'll be able to view in calendar form that will also automatically sync with the Any.DO app.

Cal gives Any.DO users a calendar interface to manage their time-based tasks. Plus, you can import your current calendar and contacts list, as well as Facebook information to make it a bit easier to add a task to your calendar, so if you want to note on your calendar that you're meeting up with a friend, Cal will automatically search for that friend in your contacts and insert them into the task.

You can also set reminders for each task that you add in Cal, including setting your own time for an alert to go off, or just set a predetermined time like 15 minutes before the event and such. The main screen in Cal shows you a week's view at the top, with the day's events listed below that. You can swipe down on the week view to show a full month for a broader view.

From the week view, you can swipe to the left or right to view the previous or next week, and tapping on a day during the week will bring up that day's events. When in the full month view, you can swipe to the left or right to view the previous or next month.

However, if you're not up with the whole 24-hour clock style, Cal unfortunately uses that (e.g. 13:00 for 1 pm). There doesn't appear to be a setting in the app to change it to a 12-hour clock scheme, so we're hoping you're all studied up on your army time.

Overall, we've definitely played around with better calendar apps in the past. Personally, I'm still a fan of Fantastical. However, Cal is still in beta form (which you can sign up for on Any.DO's website), so many new features will be coming to the app when it launches in full sometime this summer (with an Android version to come in the future at some point). If you're already deep into Any.DO's ecosystem and wish your preferred calendar app had seamless Any.DO integration, Cal might be the best solution to take advantage of.
