My Motorola Rokr E6 had real multitasking, switchable apps, cut/copy/paste, context menus - all on a touchscreen and long before the iPhone had these features. Its real downsides were a slower processor and lesser RAM (it was an older model), no GPS (it was an older model) and a resistive touchscreen (it was an older model). However, it was a real revolution and I really loved it, and it ran on MontaVista Linux. Guess what, I even hacked it once to enable Edge instead of the default GPRS.

It is a pity that Motorola gave up on the platform beyond some iterations of the A series clamshells meant for China, and I don't understand why they did this.

the summary is that apple is becoming more of a law firm recently. they lost their adored innovation way back and are now seen either in courts with other companies that somehow used letter "i" in their product or in the media deceiving those that know nothing about tech into thinking they're the best. Let's not forget the noise 'bout the advantages of the HD retina display is another apples marketing stunt, its like having a new OS with no application meant for it. most websites misbehaves when browsed with the new ipad. Let's just say that their HD, high res retina display is analogous to producing a sound with frequency higher than 20k which the ear hears not nor appreciates. the eyes hardly sees the difference in display in comparison with the transformer. And I'll definitely choose the transformer over apple's new ipad.

Numbers don't mean everything. McDonald's outsells all other fast food restaurants but that doesn't mean that's the best food out there, does it? Having had an iPad and currently a Galaxy Tab I can't really say that I can justify the higher price I paid for the iPad for my particular use of the tablet. I am quite happy with my Tab and even having seen the awesome display of the new iPad it's still not enough to make me go running to an Apple store. That display did not improve the productivity of the tablet so why replace what I already have? I would venture to say that Apple has a lock on this market simply because their products are marketed to the extreme and the UI is the best out there so they have a lock on the low-tech population. But if you are tech-savvy there are other options out there that function just as well and in some aspects provide better functionality (love having a SD slot on my tablet).

The only improvement I can grant the iPad is that the screen is quite impressive. It certainly has better viewing angles than most lower cost panels. But that's it... that's all. And from what I hear, you can get that on the Asus tablets at similar pricing.

I prefer to give up a little of this, in favor of a FAR lower price. My GTablet is excellent, and does everything the iPad does even with an ancient 2.x ROM. I haven't bothered to try ICS yet, but will do so shortly.

As I always ask, though... what can the iPad do that Android can't? No one has been able to answer than question for me. I have friends with iPads, and they enjoy them, for sure... but just as much as I enjoy mine. Keep in mind, I'm not saying the Android tabs are BETTER... but that they are equal. If you care to provide a real reason, I'd love to hear it. None of this "feels smoother" BS... because graphical tricks, sweeps, scrolls and such are irrelevant to USING the tablet.

it might have been in the past, but look at what they are doing and wake up. the ipad 2 has camera. awesome!! many android tablet has got that longs ago.The new has quad core processing. great!! that was since the prime came out! Facetime is awesome, you can now video chat with others.duhh! Skype has been doing that for years. the ipad user now can enjoy typing on a split keyboard thanks to the idea of android app developer ... and the list can go on. if you look at the features coming up in mountain lion and have a bit knowledge about android, you will realize Google has got those features for years. btw, the new ipad retina display putting side by side with my super ips display on the transformer will show you that a bit more pixels do no good for you. if you like playing, find an ipad. if you like productivity, get a transformer!

The new Samsung with the stylus cracks me up. I used a stylus with the Compaq iPaq years ago, followed by the Samsung i730 running Windows CE. One of the big reasons Apple became so successful is because they realized people loved using their finger and that capacitive touch screens are the only option. You can't drop or loose a finger, but it's easy to misplace a stylus. I guess Samsung figures the 20 year olds won't remember how the stylus went by the wayside. It's the pure simplicity of the iPad that makes it great. All those BS bells and whistles on the other tablets just confuse most people.

Yes, the iPhone was innovative in 2007 when first introduced. That was 5 years ago! The current iPhone is dated in many ways compared to other phones today which is why there are rumors that the iPhone 5 will have a 4.6" screen for one.

The Transformer Prime is the best tablet bar none. It does much more than the new iPad and does it better. Having a "retina" display is overkill in real world use, and we're beginning to discover that it's resulting in a number of problems for the new iPad like overheating issues, extremely long recharge times, thicker, heavier, and increased app and data file sizes. All due to having a "retina" display.

How is the Prime thicker than the new iPad? You need to differentiate that you're referring to the unit being thicker when docked, but thinner when not docked.

Try the prime with dock. I use mine in the field and constantly switch between the 2 available setups. It's the best device for those who truly need to produce work on the go particularly with the recent google docs update.

I've played with the new iPad and do not believe the build quality is any better than the prime. The screen indeed has better resolution but it's also fatter and heavier.

I'm quite interested in the Huawei tablet that is coming out. The specs are top notch, running ICS and the pixel count will be high. If the tablet comes out with the same quality as their top range phones and as cheap as their phones, it will be one very hard tablet to turn down. Other than that, by the end of the year, Android tablets will have stepped up to the plate to give the ipad a black eye or two. 6 months is a very long time in todays tech world. Even the transformer prime will be looking old by the end of the year.

no. There were sick phones from Nokia, LG, HTC and Sony/Ericsson WAY before the iPhone. Dont kid yourself. The iPhone has only changed the trends in terms of user interfaces and if a user wasnt a complete moron, they could be more than satisfied and productive with any of those four. The iPhone dumbed down the smartphone and made it "pretty" that is all.

Apple was the first to come out with a good tablet experience, yes, but be careful when making broad assertions. There are tablets for everyone now. Apple hasnt made one for me yet, and other millions who havent fallen for their pretty.

And the displays and processors are made Samsung.
Without Samsung, Apple would produced iCraps.
Apple is not the first to make cellphones nor smartphones.
Without other cellphones manufactures, Apple would be nothing.

Don't be such a fanboy... it all depends what you are looking for. First of all I'd argue that Android 4 (ICS) is easily the best mobile OS out there right now. It's a huge leap ahead of iOS and Android 2.x to the point where both of those feel ancient and clunky after you have used iOS for awhile. Secondly many people actually like having standard ports... which is a huge negative for apple devices. Lastly, as an owner of the TF Prime I have to say the keyboard dock is AWESOME. It's like 1000x better than using a bluetooth keyboard with an ipad and actually makes the TF Prime the first tablet you can pretty much replace your laptop with (assuming you can RDP somewhere when you need full blown applications).

I think the ipad 2 is pretty nice, but the new ipad doesn't impress me... The screen really doesn't look that much better and quite frankly a resolution that high on a device that small is pretty much just a gimmick
