Many may already own it, but for those who don't read this. So, what are you looking at; another overpriced Samsung SyncMaster. The Samsung SyncMaster 960BF 19" Analog/Digital LCD Monitor packs a lot of brand, but lacks the numbers I was looking for. For starters, it's a nice looking LCD monitor that comes with a hefty pricetag. Lets look at the stats. It's a 19" monitor that displays 16.2 million colors. The native resolution is 1280 X 1024, the brightness sits at 300 cd/m2. It has DVI and it comes with a 3 year warranty depending on where you buy it. The only thing that impressed me is the 4 millisecond response time.

Stats look nice if you like to spend money but there's a huge problem; the 700:1 contrast ratio. If you are not sure what that means, look at it this way. I admit I'm a geek but it's been a while so I did more research on the contrast ratio and why its so important when making a decision. The contrast ratio is the ratio of the brightest and darkest images a display can reproduce, so a greater ratio equals a higher quality picture and more fine details in color. I checked and a used one can run $230 but it's still not worth it. My LG monitor cost $240 with a contrast ratio of 2000:1 and I didn't spend the month's paycheck doing it. The SyncMaster 971P-R is another model in the series of overpriced LCD monitors by a respectable company we know as Samsung. If you like cute things then buy, you like saving, then shop around and look for comparisons.
