May have been theirs at one time but once you pay for it its yours and just because you have the knowledge to modify it doesn’t mean you should be taken to court for it and given criminal charges PlayStation is just all pissy because they weren’t making money on what was being done and more people were doing it for free so just because they couldn’t make another buck they went all p.m.s and pouted about it

A hijacked PS3 would allow that user to cheat at all on line multiplayer games. Thus ruining the game play for others. Sony is simply trying to keep an even playing field for ALL consumers.
This is a fair thing to do. Go ahead and mod your PS3 but dont use it on the PS3 game server.
Seems very simple to me.

Actually, it’s not. As a matter of fact, if the jews had not done anything to banks and provoked things, the Holocaust would’ve been less likely to happen. And ASIDE from that, you can’t compare this situation to the Holocaust.

SONY started this by invading a hacker’s privacy because of what he did to HIS OWN Ps3 which he BOUGHT and therefore it is no longer SONY’s. THEREFORE, it is NOT the hackers’ fault this happened. It is Sony that started this whole mess. Hacking a PS3 is legal for ANYONE to do as long as they own it.

If you had any idea what exactly is going on here, you would know that Anonymous is attacking sony for abusing the Judicial system and filing law suit after law suit at “GeoHotz”. Sony invaded privacy, and are using flawed logic to win in courts. Of course, they are multinational company so they will do whatever they please. Anonymous is protecting us. Not to mention they do make plenty of revenue from their websites and even from the network.(PSN) They also are paying for bandwidth. To be honest They have to rush to fix everything because unhappy gamers will revert to other consoles. If Sony does start charging then that gives their competitors even more of a reason to charge and then people will no longer go to sony because of the “free online” features. Sony has all the money in the world and instead of paying GeoHot for his knowledge and using that knowledge to even their advantage is pathetic and a poor business move. You fix vulnerabilities by reverse engineering them. The perfect way to test security features is to pay someone like GeoHot to crack it. SONY=Pathetic

what they are doing is embarrassing if not pathetic.
they have attacked several others companies recently, and look at these companies now, MasterCard for example, is up and running and is operating just as usual.

anonymous like to make a certain grandeur, to what they do, but in reality what they do is meaningless, they cause a little bit of hassle too companies like sony, but in the end the consumer is the one most affected.

i don’t agree 100% with what sony is doing, but pointless attacks like these achieve nothing, and just remember PSN is free, if Sony really wanted to, they could being charging for this service and use attacks like these to justify it, irony at its best,

Hmmm this rogue group is supposed to be fighting for the consumer. Why didnt they shut down Xbox Live (A Pay to play service) then ? At least Sony makes online play free versus $50-80 bucks a year they could be charging every user. Its not like this outtage is costing Sony anything like it would Microsoft. Why does Sony have to rush to fix it if they are not having to face reinbursment to the members like Microsoft would. They have dont nothing but give Sony a reason to start charging for PSN so they can use the fees to beef up security.

My PSN gaming hasn’t been interrupted… I see Playstation.com isn’t loading up though… but I never use their site so I don’t really care. Of course we should be allowed to jailbreak our PS3, it’s just a computer with a default OS on it… is Sony saying we can’t? That’s absurd if so.

I think the point was more of a ploy to bring what Sony is doing to the attention of the masses. Obviously crashing Sonys website and psn for a short period is not going to greatly affect Sony, but look at all of the press coverage that has happened. Ju st my two cents.

As a gamer, this action severely pisses me off. Where I was marginally neutral on Anonymous in the past (even slightly amused at their attacks on Scientology), I am no longer certain they’re merely a group of harmless pranksters. They are inching closer towards being a terrorist group, and through their actions are curtailing the very freedoms that they’re supposedly trying to protect. Ironically, Anonymous are playing into the hands of those who would like to legislate and regulate the internet, after all, after attacks like these, who in their right mind would even come to their defence?

Why should I support a group that considers the “freedom of speech” of a hacker (i.e. Geohot) to mean more than the rights of SONY consumers, employees and gamers (in wanting to freely enjoy their games or go online to use PSN). If they were really trying to protect my interests as a gamer and a consumer, they would not infringe on my rights.

What has Anonymous actually achieved with this attack on Sony? In fact, they’ve merely proven that they are a threat, and one that law enforcement (global) need to seriously tackle.

big deal they temporary shut down PSN, i doubt Sony are going to be overly worried.
and whilst anonymous like to get all high and mighty and pretending they do this as they are protecting consumers, it is the consumer who suffers due to this, it is the consumer who can not use PSN for their games,
Sony are unlikely going to change their strategy over this, and as its the consumers who were hurt most by this attack, you have to wonder what have anonymous achieved?
anonymous are a joke, and silly actions like this just go to prove it.
