Anonymous Hacks PlayStation.com and Sony.com - What's the Deal?

It appears that Sony has found themselves under attack by none other than that hacker group who's been rapidly gaining global attention via stories re: their attacks on the Westboro Baptist Church and opponents of Wikileaks, the collective known as "Anonymous." Why are they under attack? Anonymous feels as though they need to allow their customers the right to distribute information on the hardware they distribute. Seem reasonable? We've got a feeling that Sony doesn't exactly agree.

What you're about to read below is a message from Anonymous to the Sony network, owners of Sony.com, Playstation.com, and the PlayStation Network (PSN,) which has also fallen victim to the groups April 4th move. By the time you read this post, Sony.com may be active, and Playstation.com may be re-activating, but the damage has been done, and thousands of PlayStation gamers are likely to be rather irritated that their Monday afternoon and Sunday night antics have been interrupted. This message was sent to media outlets:

Congratulations, Sony. You now have now received the undivided attention of Anonymous. Your recent legal action against our follow hackers, Geohot and Graf_Chokolo, has not only alarmed us, it has been deemed wholly unforgivable."

You have now abused the judicial system in an attempt to censor information on how your products work. You have victimized your own customers merely for possessing and sharing information, and continue to target every person who seeks this information. In doing so you have violated the privacy of thousands. This is the information they were willing to teach the world for free. The very same information you wish to suppress for sake of corporate greed and complete control of the users.

Now you will experience the wrath of Anonymous. You saw a hornets nest, and stuck your p*nises in it. You must face the consequences of your actions, Anonymous style.

Knowledge is Free. We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not Forgive. We do not forget. Expect us.

This move appears to be accompanied by a video message hosted on YouTube:

And, judging by the comments left in several networks, message boards, and on the YouTube video above, gamers are not exactly taking to the situation the way Anonymous hoped they would.

Has your gameplay been affected by this situation?

What do you think about Anonymous taking down PSN?

Are you part of the Anonymous network or Sony and would you like to let us know how you feel about this situation?
