Ramble away. The most important thing you said is that actions of government officials are fair game for public scrutiny. Dead on, exactly.

Just like citizens who bitch about the police because they themselves are involved in illegal activity, public officials who are NOT involved in illegal behavior have nothing to worry about!

What Lulz did is illegal, yes, but any negative fallout will be the result of police wrongdoing. All of that information is already subject to public disclosure, save for social security information. But witnesses, victims and defendant information is made public and has to be so because of the 5th, 6th and 14th Amendments.

I believe that folks who FEAR and OPPOSE law enforcement generally do so because they are now or have in the past BROKEN the lawOR
were accused of breaking the law by the police when the police knew they weren't but charged them anyway.

Why would they do that if the person did nothing wrong or illegal?
Why did Hitler murder 6 million Jews and why did so many choose to not see what was happening?

There may be 100 reasons, not one of which is a good reason. Mental illness, personal gain, insecurity, impulse anger, self-loathing, jealousy, sadism, narcissistic personality disorder, mistake of fact, rush to judgment, power challenged, showing whose boss, showing whose the bigger man with females present, antisocial personality disorder, retribution for insult, career advancement, doesn't like you because ___, he can fo the rest of his shift doing the report, pressure for arrest from above, increase department income, federal inmate subsidies, competition for affection from a mutual interest,............

I was on the street in Vegas following a family death, depression,.financial loss. Common negative life event cascade. Cops treat you the way they've decided to treat you, often in advance. If your homeless and they need an easy arrest, then they have to treat you like a criminal because if they don't project their self-loathing for being criminals onto you then they'll have to take ownership of the truth. The truth is that being homeless isn't illegal but falsely charging a homeless person is illegal. Admitting that to themselves won't help meet their arrest quota. The majority, though, stopped worrying about ethics along time ago, if they ever did to begin with. If your arrest fits their agenda, then your a criminal regardless. Vegas is where I learned to never call the police or any reason. I tried to report an acquaintance of a friend who was unlawfully taking property from my friend's apartment. She had several methheads with her.
The desk sergeant told me to go round up some friends and kick their butts. That's when I realized I wasn't in Kansas anymore. Metro later received certification from a national police association. It still fascinates me, in a grudging kind of way.

I'm gonna say it one last time on this page: Two wrongs don't make a right.

If they were legitimately concerned about the state of affairs as it is at the moment then they would pursue legitimate paths. The Robin Hood excuse does not cut it, nor absolve them of being criminals and cowards at best. Everyone waves a merry flag and hurrah's at their actions so long as it doesn't upset their lives. How quick would you be to hurrah if the release of that information caused your friend to be exposed as a police informant, helping police catch real criminals, and they were murdered for it?

If we all went around committing crimes to solve crimes then very quickly this world would become a much worse place to live.

Wanting to protect you and your own is a fine ambition, but I don't think you should hate the police (or pigs as you call them) because some of them are corrupt or stupid. The institution as a whole might even be unsound, but that doesn't mean that there aren't decent coppers out there who really do give a stuff about people. I happen to know a few and would be horrified if this group of cowards caused harm to my friends and relations because of some misguided sense of do-goodery. In their own words they said, “We have no sympathy for any of the officers or informants who may be endangered by the release of their personal information.” and that sickens me and says to me that these are not people worth supporting and not people who think that their actions will have any consequences.

And I agree, usually these types of debate fall to the level of "sez u dik head, go suk a dik!" and I'm glad that hasn't happened here.

I think you and I have a fundamental disagreement on what Justice means. I don't think that an eye for an eye is Justice. I think it's stupid and petty.

Killing someone because they were trying to kill you is not Justice in my eyes, it's tragedy and all that could ever come of it is pain.

Don't get me wrong here, I am not some hippy pacifist. I just think that it is not right to answer evil with evil. Thus hacking (breaking the law) to uncover people breaking the law, is not right and will never achieve anything.

Hmmmm?

Hard question and you forgot to include some options.
A cop and his gang.
A meth cook and his family.
In N.O., the cops drop by the hood on fridays to pick up their cut, so for N.O. residents, you should probably add:
A cop that takes kickbacks from a meth cook
A meth cook and his cop gang
A cop that cooks meth with his family
Well, you get the idea. I'm going to have to think on this one a bit. I'll get back with you.

Oh, one more thing. Would the meth cook be heavily armed and dislike me for no reason also?

And if guys like Assange had been around when Rhenquist grabbed the Florida electon case away from the Florida SC in violation of the U.S. Constitution and Florida's State soverignty and gifted the Oval Office to his longstanding Reublican buddies, we wouldn't have gone to Iraq and killed 100,000+ people for Halliburton. Those diplomats would probably still be scummy people with fake reputations, and the same people who didn't get hurt despite the leak would still be unhurt. I know abuse of power when I see it. If Assange came here, he would end up in the same torture facility as Manning. Patriotism means supporting We, the People, not necessarily the herds of quacks, liars, and opportunists that routinely volunteer to represent or defend us. Your confusing those people with 'country' or 'flag', which aren't he same as We, the People either.

The law is not that you can kill someone because they attack you and so you are not administering the law. If they get away and are later caught and arrested, they're not going to be killed (except in rare cases), they are going to be punished for their crimes through the prison system.

Death is not a punishment. He's dead, so what does he care what happens now?

And lets say that you do stop him without killing him, if you've already served up some 'good ol justice' as you put it; why does he then still get arrested and sent to prison?
