Angry Birds for PlayBook confirmed

RIM may be calling the BlackBerry PlayBook an enterprise tablet, but it can't seem to leave consumers alone at BlackBerry World 2011. After video chat and Facebook apps were announced yesterday, RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis confirmed today that Angry Birds for the PlayBook is coming sometime this summer.

The hugely popular game has become something of a rite-of-passage for mobile devices, having topped the charts for both iOS and Android among others. Whether RIM's business users will be quite so impressed remains to be seen, though of course the game is only one update in what the company has promised will be OTA upgrades "every few weeks" as the PlayBook is brought up to scratch.

It's not clear whether Angry Birds developers Rovio will be charging for the app, as on the iPad and iPhone, or giving it away free (with advertising) as on Android devices. RIM has only announced one new device at BlackBerry World this year, the Bold 9900/9930 its dual touch-and-type smartphone.
