Rich Miner is the Group Manager for Mobile Platforms at Google and he thinks that Android will outsell the iPhone. I’m not saying it won’t, I mean they have 4 device manufacturers to Apple’s one.

But, I just don’t think Android has near the hype around it that the iPhone does, lets say Apple drops a brand new, completely redone 3G iPhone with 32GB of storage, actual GPS, and a few other new features to make it, with respect to hardware, as close to the same as the optimal Android phone, save for the developers and Linux fanboys, which one do you think people are going to buy? Even if you do it fairly and exclude Apple developers and Apple fanboys Apple would probably still sell more.

Anyways, Google is bragging about their 750k SDK downloads since last November while Apple is bragging about 100k SDK downloads on the first day (and it was only half of a day at that). Lastly, Google is talking about all the capabilities of the Android SDK that the iPhone has, and that’s probably true, but in the end its Motorola, LG, Samsung, and HTC’s amazing devices that are really going to push the sales of Android phones, not so much the software itself, except for with the first official Android phone out. If Apple releases a 3G iPhone and HTC (likely to be the first) releases a decent Android phone at the same time, I’d probably buy the iPhone first, but I’d get around to buying the HTC too.

OMG! Did I see an fugly keyboard in this article representing the Andriod phone? If yes, that says it all- so yesterday and -180 days to go.

That is a reference phone, android is OS, not the a phone. They have touch screen reference phone too.

yeah they do, and the touchscreen reference phone has a way more badass version of the OS on it too

A 3G, 32GB iPhone would probably be $600-$700. If Android phones cost substantially less than that, I’d see alot of people buying them. Especially since the iPhone SDK is Mac only

I am a huge apple fan, and I will probably eventually buy an iPhone. Simply because it’s the best design, integrates seamlessly with my mac, and I get all the important google services without an issue.

For the larger community, it may be a different story. Simply based on cost. Google intends to get the phone to the lowest possible price, eventually free. Apple, is on the other end and will charge high prices for the coming versions of the iPhone.

So, will cheap commodity hardware with all the Google apps beat the higher end iPhone? I think that’s the question to be answered. Globally, Google could win in volume based on price and the many OEM’s they will sign up.

After all, Android is made by Google, a company that have more talented developers than others.

As is Apple’s MO, they will release a 16GB and a 32 GB iPhone 2.0, at the same price point it is now. Look back at the history of the iPod. THey have consistently added features and storage and, over the long haul, the price of the units have gone down.

They said the iPhone was too expensive next to Windows Mobile phones. Yet is trampled the Windows Mobile market share, and gained three times the market share in six month.

And the end consumers could not care less if the SDK is Mac only or not, just as not a single consumer cares what platform is used to develop Wii games. The end user just want the finished product.

Umm don’t be such an apple fanboy man, although i am preetty sure you are not, why would u say u would buy an iphone rather than an android equipped HTC? sincerely, if both had 3G and 20+ gigs of storage, how can the iphone be your choice?

Dude, one thing I would just say from a programmers point of view. Android SDK totally destroys iPhone SDK. Programming for Android is easy and enjoyable. Programming for the iPhone is terrible. Once people see that all the good software is being released for Android because people can quickly and easily create software for it only the apple fan boys will be using iPhone complaining how google copied apple and that they are evil like microsoft.
