Almost makes me wish I had written about this several times before... oh wait, I have.

I really don't know when it is going to get through Google's head, but they need/must curate their own marketplace. As long as they allow side-loading which they do, this is a win win for everyone. You will have the marketplace where you know things have been checked and verified to not do harm to you or your equipment, and still have the ability, if one wishes to side-load any ole app you choose.

So, once again... Google curate your own marketplace!!

Oh, and please look into getting into the hardware business with your Motorola purchase and produce a halo Nexus line of phones/tablets where the consumer knows they can expect timely updates and the best hardware.

Lookout discounts this being malware. Looks like another shake down for 'protection' money by creating fear in the consumer.

Again (since you decided to delete my other comment), the entire article you are linked to specifically states that it is NOT a malware outbreak. Why then make an article about trojans and talk about how "bad" the market is?

Sometimes your articles are pretty good Chris, but this one is just garbage.

(mini troll statement: You've only been on the iphone for a week you couldn't have drank that much koolaid!)

And Apple's highly censored App Store that mandates capturing 33% of revenue for all apps highlights the problem with a curated market.

With the Android market, you have reviews. you can apply your own level of risk - only download 5-star rated apps if you like, or 4-star and up is my personal policy. Anything less is at least justification for reading the reviews, and if you don't do that - it's on you.

An app that was infected wouldn't have good ratings.
