The ability to hijack phones without instaling trojan Apps, is something that Android is also vulnerable off. Besides commenting on such an ability does not pass a judgement on "wall garden approach".

Wall garden approach, specifically is about the security which comes from curating the Apps that are in the app store with rigourous controls that Apple is famous for. It is going to be very very difficult to hijack an iPhone through a Trojan App relative to an Android phone, because a) Apple vets every app thoroughly, and yes more so than Google b) Apple does not allow any other App store.

Google itself has removed numerous Apps on its own market place for security puposes on a number of occasions. Apple as far as I remember rarely (maybe never) removed an App for security reasons. Apple may have removed content for other reasons (say bowing to political pressure, or to avoid content that competes and duplicates its own apps) but as far as I recount rarely for security purposes.

Put in other words there are multiple ways to hijack a phone. One of them is through use of Trojan Apps. In this one particular way Apples "walled garden" is way superior to Google's laissez-faire approach to App publishing. Further if the ability to install apps from outside brings with it a real and nasty threat of hijacking of phones - it defeats the entire concept.

So yes, Android community has atleast one extra worry compared to iOS community. Android market place and other app stores are a source of threat. Be wary indeed be scared of what you guys install.....

http://www.neowin.net/news/iphone-hacked-via-safari-sms-database-stolen

iPhone users don't even need to download apps to get everything stolen. All you have to do is visit a website. How's that for having a walled garden, fanboy? Much rather have my phone calls stolen than a text log. Its a lot easier to sort through a SQL database of text then it is to sort through thousands upon thousands of phone calls.

I am confused by this article. The screenshot seems to indicate that users are clearly asked if they want to give the software access to spy on their phone calls. If this is true then this is no more a Trojan than remote desktop software is a Trojan.

And for anyone who is considering respond with the obvious tripe: Yes, expecting a piece of software that asks for access to spy on your conversations to not spy on your conversations does indeed make you an idiot.
