OEMs have to meet certain requirements and be certified for app store and the like but i’m pretty sure they dont pay a cent! Links to support?

Google’s model, and their argument, is that they should be able to steal whatever they want so long as they then give it away to others. It seems that we could simply take whatever we want from Google’s executives and employees so long as we give it all away. That would seem to be perfectly reasonable and just.

There is no sale to the phone manufacturers…it’s open-source…

Google’s income comes from the 30 percent of app sales and Ads (which is mostly where it’s revenue comes from for everything Google).

Android is free for any handset maker to use so Google makes $0 from selling it because they do not sell it at all. I could make an Android phone if I wanted and wouldn’t have to pay Google a dime to use it. Google, and by extension Android, make money off ads. That is where almost all of Google’s revenue comes from and why they can provide so many free services. Since a large majority of apps in the app store are free and with the, unfortunately, large rise in app piracy, Google also does not make a whole lot of money off the app store either. I guarantee that almost 90% of their revenue comes from ads.

It’s no surprise, because there is not much of a revenue stream for the operating system itself. I imagine Google makes a bunch more money from the selling of apps in their app store. Think about all the different versions that have come out in the 3 or 4 yrs its been around and how many coders that takes. The only income made from the operating system is the sales of copies of the operating system to the phone manufacturers.

Why of course it did. Google is involved in a case where the profit they make on Android could help set the amount they have to pay out. So the accountants are told to structure it to loose money. Once this case is over….
