I tried out Xoom for a week and it is great. Honeycomb is much better than Froyo, but thing which I missed is built-in print capability. You can buy an app for it but why should user buy it? Print should be part of OS. Also, Android app store should create more hierarchy of categories.
Another major issue with all android is that it does not sync with non-gmail account as good as gmail. Emails in other email clients always get out of sync. In this matter BB, does an excellent job.
This could be google way of discourage people to use other email clients.

A nice review. However I would also like to propose that Android is still very tangibly a '1.0' piece of software with much scope for improvements and upgrades in the future that would contribute significantly to the usability of the OS. However, for it's first outing, Honeycomb is very nice and offers a very suitable alternative tablet experience to iOS on the iPad and iPad 2. I don't think 2011 is going to be the year of Honeycomb or Android on tablets because iOS still has a significant lead in terms of function, 3rd party support and UI, but 2012 will be when i place my bets. Saying that, i have a Xoom on pre-order and i'm very excited for it :).

where exactly is the webOS notification system more "discrete"?! It will show a small preview the moment you get a meeting message i.e. and you have to minimize it at the bottom of the page.

Androids notification system is not "reasonably" good, but by far the best that's available on any mobile OS at this point.

I'm a Joe Shmoe who's creating SentioUI, which will be compatible with tablets. Check it out if you're interested. It's a work in progress right now, and no, we don't have plans to sell out to anyone. It will be sold on the Market and have no significant drop in performance relative to a stock system.

What you have in mind Linwood? Can you give us some examples of what you would do? I have been using Android, first on the original Droid then on a Droid X, for a couple of years. Having multiple pages that you can populate as you PLEASE with apps and widgets seems like the most elegantly simple way to go. You homepages can be as boring or exciting as you want them to be. In fact, I think its that aspect of the Android approach that not only differentiates it from its competition, but that also makes it the most successful.

Wait, who's brainwashed?

First you assume nobody is going to want to do anything with the platform you have decided is worthless, then you undercut yourself by suggesting that those who do are bought out.

Learn how to present an argument, make up your mind, learn proper grammar and spelling, then try again. All your buttocks are belong in class.

In my opinion.... I can imagine, judging from the UI on the screens, that this appeals to a certain male audience. Working with design, its easily to tell that not too much effort went into this to target a wider audience. Everything from the font on the lower toolbar and the all black "negativ" look of the windows and popups has a certain (in my opinion) unwelcoming feeling. It reminds me of alot of scifi shows (wich I love), and its almost like im waiting for the font "Bank Gothic" to popup somewhere. It looks like the os doesnt use any apparent graphic 'metaphor' or clear distinctions in between different areas of the UI, giving first time non-tech users no clue of whats going on. Hopefully this can improve with different skins, but when you get on that path you have a product thats already starting to divide. Anyways, I totally see this working on a large male audience, but my fears are its to geeky at the moment. Working with design, its easily to tell that not too much effort went into this to target a wider audience. Everything from the font on the lower toolbar and the all black “negativ” look of the windows and popups has a certain (in my opinion) unwelcoming feeling. It reminds me of alot of scifi shows (wich I love), and its almost like im waiting for the font “Bank Gothic” to popup somewhere. It looks like the os doesnt use any apparent graphic ‘metaphor’ or clear distinctions in between different areas of the UI, giving first time non-tech users no clue of whats going on.
Honeycomb is by far the first REAL tablet experience. I've had an ipad since its release, and ios on the ipad is really just a blown up phone os. Apple has it all backwards, projecting that observation onto other products when they should have been looking at their own creations as the primary example of a phone made bigger.

I will definitely be getting 2 android tablets (1 for me, 1 for the wife). It looks like a great os.

wow, your brainwashed. Android's source is open, but the hardware it runs on isn't. What Joe shmoe is going to come in and redesign the UI for android on a single commit? Good luck with that. Even a massive experienced hacker would find the task near impossible. Google thinks if they release a bland enough platform others will change it, but the problem is they either hire those people, or buy the business those people work for and we never hear from them again. Do no evil my buttocks.

Revolutions come in many sizes.

What I think you may be missing is that Google has put something out that has been successful because of its community-based economic model, as opposed to the same old, traditional commercially-based economic model. The fact that the source code is openly available for modification is pretty amazing. This is entirely a new way at looking at commodities and communication.

Also, the speed and elegance of the way that Android has progressed has been incredible. I couldn't stand Android on my old G1, but I am now loving my G2 to pieces. It's not perfect, but the increases in speed and effectiveness have been outstanding, and now with tablets (which I have been more excited about than anything, regardless of the OS), it feels like we are headed somewhere really interesting.

Competition is up, stylization is up, communication methods are up ... it's a good thing for all. You've got access to the source code, why not go ahead and see how you can contribute? Don't like the windows model, think of something new and make it happen--and you can! You just have to do it!
