How's it a good use of the phrase? Samsung's unit share is the same as it was in July as it is in October according to comscore. They haven't moved at all and all they've done is grow commensurate with overall cell phone market. We actually don't know what the growth of the market is as they don't report that.

On the other hand, Apple actually grew share. October was a strong month for Apple, but September and August were also Apple's weakest iPhone months with month on month sales declines until October.

Who knows what it all means though as all there is are percentages with any sales numbers to figure out what's going on. I'm sure comscore charges a lot money for that data.

Well the article is implying that since Samsung has the top spot it steals the show. Pretty legit use of the phrase. It doesn't have to mean they're the only ones the matter. Just thats its at the top of the list.

But whats interesting here is that Oct is when iphone 4s came out and thats when the bulk of the iphone 4s were sold. So these #s seem to imply that most of the iphone 4s buyers are upgrading from a current iphone and not attracting new buyers.

The lede doesn't correlate with the content here. The comscore statistics is basically stating that very little has change in the last 3 months. It's the same story we've seen every quarter for a while. Android gaining like normal. Apple trending like normal. Not sure how one can conclude that Samsung is stealing as their mobile share is unchanged in these numbers.

In addition, hard to conclude anything without knowing the total numbers. RIM lost 4.5% share while Google gained 4.4% share. It doesn't mean anything unless we have a total sales to come with the percentages. RIM may have sold more phones in the last 3 months and could be doing just fine while Google is doing gangbusters with even more units sold. Ie, Google is talking most of the growth in the smartphone market. Yet the numbers are implying RIM is doing bad because they lost share. They may have sold less units, I don't know, but you really can't conclude that with the data presented.

The point is, more data please.

And of course, there's the whole what does market share really buy said entities discussion.
