This is not working out for Nokia, who is getting an overall negative cost for Windows Phone with “Platform support payments”.

There are many free phone operating systems. But they don’t have 700,000 apps.

I don’t think thats true. MS does have deals with companies like Nokia and Samsung and HTC and others. With the exception of Nokia, none of them will entertain the idea of dumping android. Android is their bread and butter in mobile the way Windows was for the desktop.

It is relevant. IOS continues to grow although not at the ace of the total smartphone market. If it were Android and BBOS, would you feel differently? This article isn’t about isn’t a battle between Android or iOS. Don’t let your prejudices against Apple make it a personal affront. Chill. There are other battle grounds and I heard that there is flag football game between Apple and Google employees in Santa Clara if you want to go cheerleading.
The article merely states that these two OS’s are continuing to ascend with the market as the other retreat and that duopoly is established. Android s definitely the dominant of the two due to wider distribution, pricing, available models, etc.

what? HTC, Samsung, and other Chinese manufacturers are already selling Windows Phone 8 the same price as Android. And what are you talking about. Android is a great OS. Especially for people who use different Google services. The OS has lots of features, it’s dynamic, exciting and not boring. Android 4.2 is already smooth and polished enough to compete with IOS’ polishness.
People already have the option to buy a windows phone. But they don’t want it. They still prefer Android because of the apps and the limitless possibilities you can do with it

I highly doubt the manufacturers give a wit about android. Consumers on the other had probably do. Don’t forget each of those companies already makes WP8 handsets (as well as many others). And still WP has lower market share than Bada and BB.

Wow Are you serious? You must not know your ass from a hole in the ground. Most phones don’t get updates is true. Its only a matter of time before people realize there being dumb and spending more money doing contracts than buying a phone straight from Google and getting all updates plus not forced to get in a contract.

If Microsoft signed deals with Samsung, HTC, and all the other Android makers tomorrow that made it feasible for them to sell windows phones for the same price as android phones, the manufacturers would dump android without a thought. If another free phone OS came out, the manufacturers would dump android too. They are using android because it’s free. Do you think the manufacturers care about the android platform at all? Clearly not, when you consider that almost none of the phones can be upgraded to the latest version of android.

Why is iOS even mentioned in a market where Android dominates (as in 70% – iOS is peanuts in comparison)?

I don’t see headlines like “iOS and Android (duopoly) monopolize 92% of tablets”
