Hey, ICS looked pretty smooth. I must say my Gingerbread device is pretty smooth too. Even my old Samsung Galaxy Spica with FroYo could run smooth with a little help from the force ;)

I tend to use the search a lot, but my new phone doesn't have a search button. It does however have a slide out keyboard, so I just slide it open, start typing and press enter. Pretty darn convenient, let's hope it works with ICS if I get it. For the Galaxy Nexus I don't know how to fix that, as you say apps like market have it built in, but what if one wants to type a web adress from the home screen. Or wait, it has a Google Search widget that stays on top on every screen, without taking up any of the 4x4 widget space, because of the large screen, so, problem mostly solved :)

Honestly, I barely use the search feature myself. Any app that I've needed to have it in had it already there (namely market.) It's useless if you ask me.

ICS sounds like it has some nice aspects, but the removal of the persistent Search button found on all other Android phones makes this phone a toy at best. The only reason to remove the that key is... I can't think of any reason.

Apple phones are geared toward people who are disinclined to put thought into the use of their device. The single, Apple defined button is a good example of this. Removing the persistent Search button is a step toward that nonsense. Maybe Google, like Apple, is worried they will confuse their users, and removed it.

My guess is they think the general user is so stupid that he doesn't realize that Search button is useful for almost every common task. Maybe they think people are so very simpleminded that they don't use their phones for internet searches. Maybe they think their users can't differentiate among four buttons and would be more "comfortable" (comfortable, BTW, is commonly used as code for "barely capable of") with a more streamlined design.

Android users aren't sheep, Google. Please don't let this continue.

CM7.1 runs just fine for me on my HTC MyTouch 4G.

It's a bit choppier on my Acer A500, but I attribute that to acers poor ability to mod Honeycomb.
