AMD Radeon HD 6870 and 6850 Now Official, Find $200 Price Point

The brand new Radeon HD 6800-series graphics card may have been teased by the company just a couple of days ago, but it looks like they're ready to pull the curtain off the brand new series, and come clean on some of the details. The new cards, as we had heard in the past, were indeed once called "Northern Islands," but the codename has dropped, leaving only the model names. If you're a fan of graphics cards, then go ahead and welcome the AMD Radeon HD 6870 and AMD Radeon 6850 into the family.

Features wise, you're looking at a pair of DVI outputs, a full-size HDMI out, as well as two Mini DisplayPort jacks. All in all, that means you'll find five outputs. AMD is aiming specifically at gamers with the inclusion of these brand new 6800-series cards. You'll find ATI Eyefinity multi-display technology therein, as well as second-generation DirectX 11 architecture inside.

But, making sure that they get the gaming market isn't all about the power inside the cards, even if that is a main component. AMD has managed to keep the pricing low on the new graphics cards, starting at just $200. AMD is also planning on bringing the new graphics cards into new, thin and light, affordable notebooks some time down the road, so keep an eye out for these cards to hit the market soon.
