Well just because Apple can ask an arm and a leg for their products doesn’t mean everybody can. Apple products are only worth about 3/4 the price. Compare any product of Apple to any other equivalent and the Apple product is much more. Its a status thing with Apple there fore they will charge more and more because they know the average bonehead will pay it and not know they are getting it up the rear. The OSX is much better than iOS, and will buy a desktop when people realize that their computers depreciate like every other piece of technology. Why buy a used 2 year old Mac Pro from somebody who has only taken $200 off Apples price of the current version. Look at a Microsoft PC from 2 years ago, people are asking for almost nothing on them cause they actually realizes what old technology is worth.

The Nook Color is a piece of junk. It is laggy doesn’t play videos off websites. Only thing its good for is a much shorter battery life than the Nook to view color magazines on. Anything outside that and its not worth it. Not a tablet my HTC Incredible phone was better than it in websites loading games, videos, you tube my phone plays videos from the website (Nook color the videos didn’t even play.)

Why spend money on it, its not really a tablet. It was meant to be a color reader and nothing else. If it was suppose to be more it failed horribly. Why we went with the regular Nook. We will pick up a quad core tablet when its out.

Hopefully Amazon will not put slow tech in their tablets or they will fail too. And we will also have to sell theirs for really cheap.

Consider what we use Laptops and TVs for. As tablets become our window on the web, TV, films, news, what was print, music and personal communication – they will largely replace other technologies. Most tablets can already connect to a TV and “share” the experience.

Apple make lots of money. They turn any product sold – indeed any customer they touch – into several enduring income streams. I think Amazon want that. They intend to out “Apple” – Apple . . and possibly parts of Google as well!
The tablet space is a huge market – and a huge marketing opportunity. Amazon are a retailer, a content seller, an App store and sell products for third parties. Through tablets, Amazon could sell all kinds of content, put an Amazon store purchase one screen tap away; and offer all kinds of “services” directly. They already have a credit card, why not become a bank and financial services company as well?

Now Amazon sell Apple products and will be using Google’s OS. Some say that Samsung are making their tablets. If Amazon try to buy WebOS (as an insurance policy) – in case one, or all, of these big players get annoyed with them; you will know that Amazon have very VERY big plans.

To make it in the android tablet business right now, all of them need the Ace up their sleeve: Tegra 2/3.
It carries the weight of nVidia and means to the public: F-YEAH graphics! Marketing win.

Price wise, I was willing to pay €335 for a Acer Iconia A500. A 10″ with the right balance of qualities for my needs.(Tegra 2) If Amazon puts at least the same qualities or better in a tablet that will cost less then the A500 with the same kindle ADD sponsored deal, it will sell well.
If they can make it absurdly less expensive, <250, it will be a best seller just for the trade marks alone.

Dedicated Tegra Store on the Amazon upcoming app store et voilá!

Looks like Amazon is keeping the cost of the Touchpad in the UK high to boost sales of their own pad. It’s STILL at £249 for the 16GB. They have also been deleting any bad reviews for customer who complain about their price manipulations.

Nook color is a great device but missing a couple things some people might want.
Namely, GPS and cameras.
Of course some people could not care less about the lack of these items.

I have seen all kinds of stories about the amazon tablet(s), from them/it being full bore units at super cheap prices to them/it being a very basic tablet (like nook color) but at a very cheap price.
Will be interesting to see what goes on.

Amazon is one of the few companies though which could make a business model around something as disruptive to ipad sales as ipad sales have been to the general marketplace.
Namely – beat hell out of it on initial price for a comparable tablet.

And by disruptive I mean throw out of whack completely the market situation used to do the analysis about how long ipad will stay in control of the market so dominantly.

$99? Have you ever made anything in your life? I’m a designer and the stuff I make component wise that costs $60 needs to sell for $99 at least to even be worth doing. And I can tell you its only 1% of what you get from a tablet.

I can understand taking a hit for sales but at $99 you would be better off just saying here take this $150 and you would still be $’s up with out the agro of making a product.

Phones have to be certified by appropriate authorities and the cell radios in them carry a heavy licensing cost. In addition a phone should be able to perform emergency calls.
There are basically no requirements for tablets, because all they use is the license free spectrum.(Other than not being too powerful)

Even if they sell the 7″ dual ore for $199 and the 10″ quad-core for $299 they may fly off the selves.

In case the pads are decent enough (meaning IPS-like screen, 1GB RAM, USB ports…etc) they would be a great deal at those price points.

Why is this so amazing? The nook has been available for ages at half the price if an.iPad.. and It’s actually worth it.. It’s rugged, hackable, great screen, etc..

I’m betting on $199 debut price myself.. that’s where it needs to by and it must have pixel qi screen or similar daylight viewing, must be dual core or at least much faster than nook, and if they really want people pumped it’d be easily rooted or boot from SD like nook.

Nook is the competitor in this space not iPad.

I would buy two if the 10″ dual core multitouch 32GB is around $199 for personal use. If its REALLY great then I would consider buying one for each of the employees at my small firm. Def not going with an apple product. The full windows tablets are more expensive than a laptop!

You gotta just love the word “aggressive”. When I drive by a house that’s described as “aggressively-priced”, I think, “Yep, they’re getting desperate”. It’s the same thing with Amazon. They’d rather take it on the chin, profit-wise, than have they’re brand new tablet look like a loser. It’s all an exercise in futility, if you ask me.
