These isupply prices are so silly. What’s sillier is 20 tech news sites all believe it. Isupply uses retail prices for components and doesn’t take into account bult pricing and trade items.

The manufacturer of the kindle fire also makes hundreds if other electronics for other brands. They even make their own circuit boards and some other components. I would say you could roughly build it for $70 – $100. Just ask hp. I have a feeling 99 was a break even point for the touchpad fire sale.

That’s nonsense to think that Amazon will go bankrupt because of an inexpensive tablet. Bezos is one of the few C.E.O.s that knows what he’s doing in this space. He knows that the content and goods sold via the tablet is what matters.

Ha…absolutely nothing. A much lower price gets more of these devices into the hands of the people that will have access to the Amazon site. Thus selling and renting more of everything.

What about distribution channel costs after the product is produced? This is probably taken into account by analysts, but excluded in iSuppli’s estimates…

irrelevant, that $9 will easily be made up by amazon in content. App store, MP3 downloads, books, prime etc. It is similar to how google loses millions in R&D in android but makes it back in spades with apps, movies/tv shows, books, and most importantly search and location based ads. If anything, amazon would make more off of this than google because they are piggybacking off their R&D and making nothing but money on content.
