If anyone does a lot of reading and research they know that objectivity is hard to come by but slashgear did a good job .I own a e-ink Kindle,a Kindle Fire and now HD. I should add I also own an I-Pad so my analysis is hands on from a consumers stand point
.For reading a book nothing beats e-ink it is technology designed for electronic books and it does that perfectly well. Tablets and computers will display the pages but not as well as a e-ink reader. The Kindle Fire is a very good product for watching a movie or viewing color content. Browsing the web is easy the the Amazon interface makes using the Fire idiot proof. The new kindle fire improves on the display and functions just move more smoothly and quickly, it is an excellent device and for the price real value. For those who complain about the Amazon Ads and interface, the ads go away quickly and access to Amazon is for many consumers a highly desired feature. I suspect many consumers like reading the paper or a magazine to see what is on sale, there you go.

A note about the I-Pad, a great device, it should be for the price. Great display a smooth OS, simple to surf the web, or watch a movie but less functional than a laptop.

In my opinion, the Amazon Fire is an excellent device, well designed, works great and is highly functional. For those who nit pick about the ads or that it runs android in the background, I would bet >90 of consumers could care less about the OS and have no clue or care about Ice cream, Jelly Bean or any OS for that matter.

Even if you pay the $15 to get rid of ads, it does not remove all of them. If you look at the reviews for the Fire HD on amazon, that it a big complaint.
